Chapter 7 : Grandpop/ Unknown guy

Weeks have passed, as Jace manages to maneuver his home with his crutches. His house was in the suburbs, at the low end of the county. That was fairly decent with not much crime. His movements can be heard as his crutches clink to the wooden floor. Just as he was about to go to the kitchen a voice echoed in the living room.

"Jace... my boy… is that you?"

Jace goes to the living room to see his Grand pop. "Yes pop, it is I, Jace your Grandson."

His Grandpa looks at his leg, "Hm dog bit yah, huh. What a nasty scar… I had the same thing when I was young."

He lifted his shirt as a large scar went from his left chest down in an angle, passing his epigastric region to end in the right lumbar region. "This scar was not from an animal. Rather… from when I was doing crime."

Jace shook his head, "That didn't happen Grand pop, Grandma said you were in a severe car accident and your car caved in on you as you were upside down."

His Grandpa looked at him then felt his scar. "I was sure it was a knife fight… What about when… I got the ladies, that I'm… positive I couldn't make that up?"

Jace facepalm his forehead, as Gran came with a tray of snacks for Grand pop. She placed the tray on the tray stand in front of him. As she smiled, "That was ladies from "bingo" night, you dressed too formal, love." As she helped him sit up and put pillows behind his back and fed him soup.

"But my dad always said to always… dress to impress… and… I achieved that-," as Gran hushed him up with a spoon of soup. As she lightly wiped the little soup from the corner of his lips with a napkin, "You already achieved that, love. You got me entranced and still are, old fool. After all, we're still married after 60 years and on."

Gran was younger than Grand pop by 17 years, as he was 98 years old and still kicking on with life. Grand pop had dementia for 12 years now, as he had forgotten little details, but never the important ones. They continue to enjoy their time together as now Grand pop was slowly feeding Gran with his soup. He looked at Jace, "Who are you again… lad...?"

"I'm Jace, Grand pop, your daughter's only son."

Grand pop looks at his wife, "Honey, I think the caretaker… is here to give me a bath."

Gran smiled and reassured her husband, "That's our grandson, love. We have 4 daughters, Camilia, Sophia, Eleanor and Nora. Jace is Nora's son."

Grand pop eyes widened, "Our little Nora had a son! My goodness gracious. Why wasn't I invited to the birthday?!"

Gran patted his hand saying he was always there for all the birthdays of every family member.

Grand pop looks at Jace and nods, "So… any girlfriends lad?"

As Jace was about to speak, the door knocked as Hannah came. As Jace lets Hannah in, they walk to the living room as Hannah greets Jace's grandparents.

Gran greets her as Grand pop looks. "My… my, by all the stars… is she your wife Jace?"

"No grand pop, me and Hannah are close friends. She's single and isn't ready for any commitment yet."

Grand pop looks away slowly, "well… you better make a good impression, like… your old man." He chuckled, as Gran patted his hand softly giving him a soft look with a grin.

"I got to go Gran, Grand pop. Hannah is taking me to eat out in the city."

As Jace's grandparents bid him a farewell, Hannah helped Jace to her car as he's still in crutches. Once they settled in the car, they drove off to a restaurant for lunch.

Once they reach their destination, they make their way to the restaurant and sit in an open area. The atmosphere was calm with a jazz band playing a bit quietly on stage. With warm lights and a few small candles, one each per table, rested on top of black decorative tablecloth. They both chatted about life, some about how Jace's grandparents met and what they went through in life. Others were mainly about interest in movies seen recently and some drama tv series. They continue to eat, when a waiter asks Hannah to follow him as it'll be for a few minutes. Hannah was escorted to the 2nd floor taking the stairs, passing a small lounge and bar to a door.

As the waiter knocked on the door, a voice sounded. As the waiter opened the door for her to walk in. Hannah goes in as the room lights are dimmed and sees a small round table with a single rose flower on a vase. Her favorite food, lobster pasta and red wine was on the table. A man in a suit faced away from the window, the view of the city, and smiled to Hannah. The waiter gently closed the door and walked away.

"Miss me, sweetie? I know you still do… after all. I'm still your first and only..." The man with a black suit, golden watch on his left wrists, shoes leathered and made carefully. His hair slicked back, mainly on the sides with a clean cut. With a hint of perfume that Hannah instantly remembered, as she inhaled it slowly.

"What do you want? Sir."

He moved the chair for her as he tapped the back of the chair. "Sit, please. We have much to discuss, with a couple minutes of your time. I wasn't interrupting a date, was I…?"

She shook her head no and sat down. The man bends down and kisses her head. As she smiles and eats the lobster pasta as they talk. Leaving Jace downstairs alone, wondering what just happened.
