Chapter 6

For some reason, when he looked at Chad, I felt a twinge of embarrassment, like a kid caught red-handed doing something wrong.

Dashiell didn't say a word. His long, elegant fingers reached out to take the cardboard box from my arms and placed it in the trunk of the Maybach.

Then he opened the back door and gently ushered me in.

Luxury cars really are smooth. I lowered my head to text Skylar in the passenger seat.

[Why did you bring your brother?!]

I wanted to freak out at her. Being seen in such a messy situation by the man I secretly admired was beyond mortifying.

Yes, I had a crush on Dashiell.

But it wasn't your typical crush. It was more like idol worship.

The first time I went to Skylar's place, I met her brother who seemed like a celestial being descended to Earth – cool, handsome, noble... Who could resist that?

I chose to be with Chad partly to keep myself in check, to stop fantasizing about that unattainable man.
