Chapter 1

After my wife's brother-in-law suddenly fell seriously ill, she asked me to get a vasectomy while we were trying to conceive.

Her eyes flickered but remained resolute: "My brother-in-law has done so much for me. He wants a child, and I have to help fulfill his wish. Of course, I'll take care of your physical needs, but to be safe, you need to get a vasectomy."

I didn't throw a fit. I went to the hospital as she wished.

In my past life, I refused her absurd request and spent our entire fortune to help treat her brother-in-law.

But when her brother-in-law committed suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning because he had no heir,

Jane came to despise me, falsely accusing me of being heartless and reporting me for stealing others' technological achievements.

The company I poured my heart and soul into was destroyed overnight, and I died full of resentment in prison.

This time, I've decided to give up on Jane and wholeheartedly pursue my career.

I carefully examined the latest test results, barely containing my joy before I could share it with Jane, when I saw her face filled with tears.

She swiftly snatched her report from my hands, clasping them together in prayer with a mix of shock and elation.

The doctor, eyes fixed on the screen, thoughtfully remarked, "Your health has improved nicely during this period. All indicators look good. It shouldn't be long before you're able to conceive."

Jane excitedly grasped the doctor's hand and quickly asked, "Doctor, if the child's father has inconvenient lower body, which position is better to conceive?"

The doctor, visibly confused, looked me up and down as I stood nearby. Jane turned her head, shooting me an impatient glare, signaling me to leave.

Standing in the hallway, I gazed at the vibrant spring weather outside and the blossoming flowers on the branches.

My mood plummeted to its lowest point, with an unrelenting ache in my chest.

Despite the mild weather, I felt a bone-chilling cold all over my body.

As I was lost in memories of the past, Jane emerged from the doctor's office.

The anxiety had left her face, replaced by an expression of jubilant excitement. In the parking lot, Jane leaned against the car, looking at me with determination. "Dashiell, my uncle has done so much for me. He wants a child, and I need to help him fulfill his wish."

Hearing these words again, I felt no ripple in my heart.

"You know, my uncle has been so good to me. He's sick now, and his only wish is to have a child of his own. I have an obligation to help him make it happen."

"Of course, don't worry. I don't love him. I'm only doing this to repay his kindness."

Seeing my silence, Jane assured me, "Of course, I'll take care of your physical needs, but to be safe, you'll need to get a vasectomy."

I looked at her calmly, my expression unchanged as I agreed to her request.

I knew that even if I refused her absurd demand like in my past life, or even spent all our fortune to save her uncle...

When her uncle became depressed and committed suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning because he didn't have a child of his own.

Jane, who had just gotten pregnant, hated me bitterly. She aborted the baby despite my desperate pleas.

She even slandered me, saying I was heartless and had stolen technological innovations from other companies.

I ended up in jail, the company I had poured my heart and soul into was destroyed, and I spent my remaining days wasting away in prison.

"Don't worry, I've thought it through. When the baby is born, you can be the godfather. That way, you can be a dad too."Looking at her expression, as if she had everything planned out for me, it was as though I, the one who'd been cheated on, should be thanking the two of them.

"However, I hope you'll keep this a secret. My uncle's health isn't good, and I'm worried that others' words might affect his recovery."

I stared at her for two seconds, then forced a smile and nodded, "You've thought of everything. I agree to all of it."

The reason Jane didn't dare to do this so openly wasn't just because she was afraid her so-called uncle would hear about it and be heartbroken, but also because she feared that under the pressure of everyone's rumors, I might file for divorce.

In that case, she'd lose her automatic teller machine who always put her first in everything.

Seeing my agreement, Jane rewarded me with a light peck on the lips, her smile growing even brighter.

As I reached to open the car door, she quickly shut it, "Honey, I knew you loved me and would definitely agree. I've already made an appointment for you. Go get the surgery done. I need to check on my uncle. He wants to eat the seafood porridge I make for him today."

Looking at the surgery appointment slip Jane handed me, a wave of darkness flashed before my eyes.

The parking lot was quiet, but my head felt like it was exploding, buzzing loudly.

I crouched down, holding my aching head, feeling as if the world was spinning around me.I squatted on the ground for a solid fifteen minutes before I finally regained my composure.
