Chapter 1

Married to Emma Watson for five years.

That day, I was on the peak of the Alps, waiting for her to come see the black panther I was filming.

In the lens, that rare creature was hunting, while I had been waiting for twelve hours in minus thirty degrees.

My phone vibrated frantically, with hundreds of hateful comments pouring in: "Get out of the industry, stop riding on Emma Watson's new documentary hype!"

Leonardo DiCaprio's fans were already waiting at the foot of the mountain: "Stop pretending to be aloof in the mountains, come out and face Leonardo directly!"

Emma Watson stepped down from the SUV, saw this scene, and hooked her arm through Leonardo DiCaprio's, smiling: "Don't mind him, we need to hurry to the wildlife sanctuary for the livestream."

That evening, Leonardo DiCaprio's photo together went viral: "Thanks to Emma for supporting my charity project, this time we're going to protect snow leopards together!"

I turned off social media and replied to the United Nations Environment Programme: "I accept the appointment as Wildlife Conservation Ambassador, I'll be in Alaska next week."

"Great news! This trip will allow you to connect with the research institute in Russia!"

Alec's email reply came quickly.

He's my closest friend from college and the current Chairman of the United Nations.

He's always been inviting me to participate in research, but I was always afraid of leaving home for too long, making Emma Watson feel lonely.

Now I can only smile bitterly.

Just as I closed my email, Emma Watson arrived at the café, forty minutes late.

Even from two tables away, I could smell the strong sandalwood scent on her.

She used to arrive on set just in time, afraid of delaying my filming.

For the past month, she's been late even to our regular meetings.

And now she's wearing this perfume I've never smelled before.

I took a sip of coffee and calmly said:

"I've accepted the project in Alaska."

She made a noncommittal sound, still looking down.

I smiled.

She was still dismissing everything I said.

In the past, I would have earnestly explained the significance of the project to her.

But this time, I didn't want to make the effort anymore.

I opened my laptop and started replying to emails from the international wildlife conservation organization.

The waiter brought our food.

She noticed I hadn't ordered her usual matcha latte.Emma Watson finally deigned to look up:

"Those netizens yesterday were just Leonardo DiCaprio's overzealous fans. He's already clarified it in his livestream."

"You should be more careful about your safety in the future. Don't go to such remote places for filming by yourself."

She glanced at me, her tone impatient.

I was replying to emails, not bothering to look up:

Yesterday, when I came down from the mountain, I encountered a group of angry netizens.

Otherwise, they threatened to dig into my private life.

I was forced to take a ten-mile detour to shake them off.

Fans flooded the comments with messages saying "So sweet!"

I closed the page.

Alec sent over the detailed list of project team members.

Emma Watson never came back after taking that phone call.
