Unfortunately, the characters themselves fall short. There's an unending line of typical dumb villains who repeat the same cliche of underestimating the protagonist then die miserably. Even the plot itself mostly boils down to a repetition of 'kill a bad guy, which offends his friends, get stronger, kill those friends, offend their families, get stronger... etc etc. Still, if you enjoy classic Xianxia tropes this can still be a fun read.
