Chapter Sixty Three

Sera's Pov

I froze.

Lucian's breath was warm against my cheek, his arm still looped around my waist. He hadn't moved since the kiss.

But now his entire body was stiff as a board behind me, like he'd only just registered what happened. Like someone had dumped ice water down his spine and he couldn't decide whether to scream or bolt.

I didn't dare turn around.

Didn't want to see the look on his face.

But I still shifted my eyes just slightly, just enough to catch the edge of his profile.

His eyes were wide. Shocked. Mouth parted in disbelief.

A beat passed.

Two.

Three.

Then, with a low sigh that sounded like it had been ripped from his chest, Lucian pulled away from me. He sat up in the bed, rubbing a hand down his face.

"I… I'm sorry," he said, voice hoarse.

I blinked up at the ceiling, face flushed so hard I could probably fry an egg on it.

He was apologizing.

Of course he was.
