Chapter 17:

Harvey stepped forward, heart hammering. The Dungeon Core pulsed in response, floating toward him as if drawn by an invisible force.

The caretaker spoke calmly. "Once you fuse with it, your void abilities will stabilize, but you must control the process. If you fail, the core will consume you instead."

Julia stiffened. "That can happen?"

The caretaker smiled. "Rarely."

Harvey scowled. Not comforting.

But there was no turning back now.

He reached out.

The moment his fingers brushed the core, an explosion of energy erupted inside him.

Darkness surged into his body, and for a split second, he felt like he was falling into nothingness.

His mark ignited—fighting back.

The void energy inside him and the Dungeon Core clashed.

Harvey gritted his teeth, focusing on the power trying to overwhelm him. It wasn't an enemy—it was raw potential.

He reached deeper, embracing the chaos.

And then—the void became his.

The energy stabilized. The connection solidified.

And Harvey's world changed.

Harvey collapsed to his knees, gasping. The overwhelming energy inside him had settled, but he could feel the difference.

He had absorbed the Dungeon Core.

He had become something more.

The caretaker watched him with quiet approval. "You now possess a Void Domain—an inner space within the void itself. With training, you will be able to expand it, shape it, and wield it as both a weapon and a sanctuary."

Harvey clenched his fists. He could sense it—a space inside him, vast and untamed. A world that belonged to him alone.

Julia knelt beside him, concern in her eyes. "How do you feel?"

Harvey exhaled, then grinned. "Like I just swallowed a star."

The caretaker chuckled. "Then let's see if you can handle it."

The first lesson was simple in theory: control.

Harvey stood in the training chamber within the void, his mark glowing faintly. The space around him responded, shifting slightly with his thoughts.

The caretaker watched. "Your domain will follow your will. Try to shape it."

Harvey focused, willing the energy to take form. At first, nothing happened. Then—a ripple.

The air in front of him folded, warping like a mirage.

Julia gasped. "That's… incredible."

Harvey grinned—before the energy lashed back.

A sudden pulse sent him staggering, and a jagged tear in space nearly swallowed him whole.

The caretaker sighed. "And that is why you need training."

Harvey groaned. This was going to take a while.

Days passed inside the void. Harvey practiced endlessly, learning how to stabilize and shape his new abilities.

But despite his progress, something felt off.

One night, as he meditated, he felt a presence. A whisper of something… familiar.

A vision struck him—a memory that wasn't his.

A vast battlefield. Figures cloaked in void energy. A war waged in silence, the air thick with power that could shatter worlds.

And at the center of it all—a figure with a mark like his.

Harvey jolted awake, heart racing.

What the hell had he just seen?

Harvey couldn't ignore the vision. It felt too real.

The caretaker noticed his distraction. "You have questions."

Harvey hesitated, then nodded. "Who else had this power before me?"

The caretaker's expression darkened. "Few. And most did not survive."

Harvey's stomach tightened.

"But you will not share their fate," the caretaker continued. "If you master your abilities, you will become something far greater."

Harvey swallowed hard. He had a feeling that whatever lay ahead, he wasn't ready for it yet.

But that didn't matter.

He had already chosen this path.

And there was no turning back.
