"How.. no... what is this?!" Ignatus takes a step back completely baffled. "This. This is my diagram of our light field." Says professor Benedetto proudly.
"Our what?"
"To put simply, this drawing represents light traveling through space. Think of it as a way to capture all the visual information from every direction at every point In a scene. This allows for more flexible viewing options, such as changing the perspective or focusing on different parts of the scene after you've gotten the image."
"Benedetto, no, You've gone mad. Do you realize this contradict with the Church's teaching?! We already have knowledge of how the natural world works—Y'know the one where we're at the center of the Earth because if the heavens are divine, and the gods created man, well then certainly the Earth must be at the center... right, RIGHT!?"
Professor Benedetto stares at him blankly, "you can't really prove that Earth is in the center can you?"
"B-but"
"FUCK ME, I have tried it and disproven it alright. WE, Earth, revolve around the sun. We aren't the one's getting revolved around." Benedetto furiously slams his hand on the table. "Listen, I want you to help me with this. I've never really liked the Church. I always thought they were shady, as if their reasonings for the natural world was incomplete."
"No, I refuse, this discovery of the light field tells us more about the universe than we know of through a theological sense. You're implying the universe is more mechanistic rather than divine intervention. You've gone mad Professor. Unlike you I don't want to be burned on a stake or hanged on a noose."
Looking under the table, Professor Benedetto pulls out a bowing knife. A bit rusted but still does the job. "Sorry Ignatus. I was hoping you would say yes. You see my eyes aren't as good as they once were. I can see decently with one eye, however, my other eye is blurred. My depth perception is off because of this. I can't let you leave now." Benedetto pushes Ignatus to the wall and pins him there with the knife a millimeter away from his neck. "OK OK," Ignatus pants greatly. "I'l help you alright! Just put the knife down."
Professor Benedetto slowly puts the knife in his pocket. "Good. Come by my room everyday after class. Don't even think of running away or telling the Church. If you do, I will kill your family. We as a university have your address on hand."
A loud creaking sound was heard right at the door. Quickly, Benedetto and Ignatus turn their heads to see who it was. Benedetto curses, "Fuck it's Rueben, You. How much did you hear. How LONG were you there!?" Rueben was a T/A for Benedetto. He would usually help him grade assignments and such.
"P-professor, I was waiting outside of class for you to meet me so we could get started grading papers, b-but I didn't see you come so I went to your room here to look for you, a- and..."
"Rueben, let's forget everything you heard today alright? You know what? let me promote you to be my personal assistant how about that?"Benedetto rubs his hand together and pulls out a fake smile. Rueben turns around and dashes out his room. "STOP HIM!" Ignatus scrambles to the door and chases after Rueben as he bolts through the halls of the university. Benedetto tries to catch Rueben as-well but stumbles over some books and falls over, "curses!"
Rueben makes his exit our of the university and takes a hard left. he jumps on top of a box and hoists himself over a fence. Ignatus tries to mimic the same but falls on the floor instead of landing softly over the fence. Rueben arrives at the church and with a strong thrust, pushes the doors open. The bishop and priest turn their heads around and see Rueben, on his knees, panting. "B-bishop. I have news, Ignatus and professor Benedetto have been studying something about the Earth not being in the center and I think it was how Earth is mechanistic?" Ignatus bursts through the doors and looks at the bishop, then the priest, and back down to Rueben. It was too late.
"Th-Thats him, that's one of them," Rueben exclaims dramatically. "Guards. Seize him." The guards come rushing to apprehend Ignatus as he just accepts defeat. The bishop scowls at him and turns his head. "Guards find the professor and bring him here. Prepare the stakes, we may need them."
