Choices and Consequences

The elderly man, Li Yuan, sensed the turmoil within Li Feng's mind.

"It seems you have many questions, young man," he said, his voice gentle. "First, let me explain something. Most of your questions will be answered as I delve into the explanation."

The elderly man, Li Yuan, sighed deeply. "It seems I must explain why you were sent to the orphanage, Li Feng.

In our family, we have a tradition of raising our children in different environments to broaden their perspectives and develop their character.

Your brother, Li Chen, was raised in a modest environment, focused on academics. Li Xue was raised in a glamorous world, the daughter of a celebrity.

Li Wei and Li Yan were raised as privileged children, accustomed to luxury. You, however, were sent to experience a different life, the life of a common villager.

Unfortunately, the person entrusted with your care betrayed our trust and sent you to an orphanage.

In our family, once a child is sent out, they cannot return until they turn eighteen.

We had planned to transfer you to another family, but..." Li Yuan's voice trailed off, his gaze lingering on Li Feng's mother.

Li Feng understood the unspoken message in their eyes. His father's gaze, filled with regret, confirmed his suspicions.

And his mother's cold, indifferent expression left no room for doubt. She had chosen to distance herself, to let him go without a backward glance.

A wave of sadness washed over Li Feng, but he forced himself to remain composed. He couldn't let his emotions consume him.

Li Yuan, sensing the tension in the room, cleared his throat. "Well, now that you're here, it's time to discuss your future. Which field would you like to pursue? We can arrange for your admission to the best colleges and universities."

Li Feng, his voice filled with confusion, spoke up. "I've never heard of the Li family. What does our family do?"

His question hung in the air, a stark contrast to the expectations of the family elders. The air crackled with Li Feng's question.

A flicker of surprise crossed Li Yuan's face, quickly replaced by a strained smile."Ah, yes," he chuckled, "I suppose we skipped a crucial detail. You see, Li Feng, the Li family is... unique. We operate in the shadows, a silent hand that shapes the world. Consider us the orchestra conductor, not the individual violinist. Our influence reaches into every sector imaginable – finance, technology, even space exploration, just as your cousin Li Xue mentioned."

Li Yuan's chest puffed with a subtle pride he couldn't quite disguise.

"There's nothing the Li family can't achieve. We possess immense wealth and power, though our operations remain a closely guarded secret. Only a handful of elite families like ours exist, and we command an unspoken fear and respect."

Leaning forward, Li Yuan's gaze held a hint of expectation. "Now, with your return, it's time to choose your path. Tell us your interest, Li Feng. Whether it's the sprawling world of real estate like Li Chen, the cutting-edge advancements of medicine Li Wei pursues, the technological innovations of Li Yan, or the vast expanse of space exploration that enthralls Li Xue, we can open any door for you. The choice is yours."

After a moment of stunned silence, Li Feng calmed his nerves, his voice steady despite the fear and pressure he felt. He spoke with a determination. His answer surprised everyone in the room.

Li Feng, his voice steady, looked at the family. "I accept being a part of this family," he began, "but I have my path. I won't use the family's influence or resources."

Li Yuan's wife, the elderly matriarch, spoke up, her voice filled with confusion. "Why would you refuse the advantages of our family? It's a privilege that many would envy."

Li Feng met her gaze, his expression resolute. "I want to be free just how I was till now."

Li Yuan, his gaze filled with understanding, addressed Li Feng. "We understand, young man. You've endured hardship because of our tradition. But we wouldn't leave you adrift."

His eyes flickered pointedly towards Li Feng's mother, a silent message passing between them."Here's what we propose," Li Yuan continued.

"Take some time to reflect on your path. Meanwhile, why not enroll in a prestigious finance program at a university in Xinzhou? Our family primarily operates in larger countries like America and Britannia, but you can establish yourself here and study independently."

Li Feng nodded, his mind racing. 'A finance degree, huh? 'he thought. 'That could be useful. I can use that knowledge to manage the system's funds.

'He smiled inwardly, a plan forming in his mind. With Li Feng's tacit agreement, the meeting concluded.

As the family members moved towards the dining hall, Li Feng couldn't help but notice the absence of his mother.

She had excused herself, citing urgent business.

The grand dining hall was a sight to behold. A long, ornate table was laden with a sumptuous feast, prepared by world-renowned chefs. Delicate porcelain plates held exquisite dishes, each a masterpiece of culinary art.

As the family gathered around the table, a lively conversation ensued. Li Wei and Li Yan, the twins, were particularly chatty, sharing stories of their latest adventures and discussing their ambitious plans for the future.

Li Chen, on the other hand, was more reserved, speaking only when necessary, his words measured and deliberate.

Li Feng found himself drawn to Li Xue, who sat across from him. Her beauty was striking, but her demeanor was distant and aloof. She ate silently, her gaze fixed on her plate.

The grand dinner concluded with a sense of satisfaction and anticipation. As the family members began to depart, Li Yuan turned to Li Feng.

"Well, our work here is done. If you need anything, Chen will be your secretary. Perhaps you might need a female secretary to assist you as well?" he joked, a twinkle in his eye.

One by one, the family members left, each in their luxurious vehicles, escorted by a fleet of security cars.

Li Yuan and Li Hua departed in a classic, vintage car, its timeless elegance a testament to the family's wealth and history.

Li Feng was left alone with his father, Li Ming. As they stood by the grand entrance, Li Ming pulled his son into a warm embrace.

Surprised, Li Feng returned the hug, feeling a surge of emotion he hadn't experienced in years. "Welcome back, son," Li Ming said, his voice filled with affection.

Li Ming then handed Li Feng a sleek, black card, its surface shimmering with a subtle purple hue. "This is your card. I'll transfer a monthly allowance to it. If you need more, just let me know." With a final nod, Li Ming turned and left, disappearing into the night.
