Chapter 13: A Genius Without Strength
After forming their team, Rei and his teammates continued to observe the other students in the training rooms.
He had already known that Aether Academy housed monsters, but seeing them firsthand was something else entirely.
Kazuki Renjou's raw power, capable of shattering reinforced combat dummies with a single strike. Lina Veras' ghost-like movements, impossible to land a hit on. Elias Krow's endurance, tanking blows that would break normal fighters. Kenji Arata's ruthless Muay Thai, overwhelming his opponents with sheer aggression. Mika Fujiwara's pinpoint accuracy, striking distant targets with unnatural precision. His own teammates—Souta's lightning-fast reflexes and Akari's flawless counters.
Rei memorized everything.Every technique.Every movement.Every subtle shift in their stances.
And yet, as he watched them, a realization sank in.
He was the only one in this academy who had no physical talent.
His mind was superior, but his body was worthless in a fight.
He clenched his fists. I have to try.
Late Night – The Secret Training Session
That night, while the academy slept, Rei slipped out of his dorm and entered the empty training hall.
The artificial lights hummed softly, casting shadows across the combat floor.
He stood in front of a sparring dummy, replaying every movement he had analyzed earlier.
"Souta's speed… If I move like him, I should be able to dodge anything."
Rei positioned himself, tensed his muscles—then launched forward.
WHAM!
He stumbled immediately. His body wasn't fast enough to keep up with the movement.
"Tch. Too slow."
He tried Lina's evasion, but his reaction speed wasn't high enough—his body lagged behind his brain.
He attempted Kazuki's powerful strikes, but his arms didn't have the muscle strength.
He mimicked Kenji's Muay Thai, but his body screamed in pain from just attempting the stance.
No matter how well he understood their techniques, his body couldn't execute them.
Frustration boiled inside him. I can see everything. I can analyze everything. But I can't DO anything.
He leaned against the training wall, breathing heavily. "I'm weak."
For the first time, the truth hit him harder than any blow.
He could copy any move in his mind. He could calculate the perfect counters. But if his body couldn't execute them, what was the point?
Rei stared at his shaking hands.
I need to find another way.
He exhaled, pushing off the wall. He had learned something important tonight. He couldn't fight like the others.
So he had to find his own way to fight.
With that, he left the training hall, his mind racing with new possibilities.
