Chapter 47: The Unreadable Fighter
The air in the training hall grew thick with anticipation.
Rei Kurogane had just dismantled Kenji Arata. Now, Professor Graves had thrown him into an even greater challenge.
A fight against Kozuki Renjou.
Kozuki Renjou – The Wild Card of Class 1-A
Unlike the other top students, Kozuki didn't have a specific style.
✔ He didn't rely on pure strength like Ryoma Takeda.✔ He wasn't a speed demon like Renji Aoyama.✔ He didn't have the precision of Akari Kisaragi.
Kozuki fought however he wanted.
His combat style was chaotic, unpredictable, and unreadable.
Which meant—Rei's strongest weapon, his ability to analyze and predict movements, might not work.
Kozuki (grinning): "This should be fun, Kurogane."
Rei remained calm.
Rei (thinking): I've watched every student in Class 1-A. I know their strengths, their weaknesses… but Kozuki?
No matter how many times Rei had observed Kozuki…
🔹 Sometimes, he fought like a brawler.🔹 Other times, he moved like a counter-fighter.🔹 And then, there were moments where he did something completely irrational.
Rei (thinking, serious): He doesn't fight to win. He fights to enjoy the chaos.
Kozuki cracked his neck and stepped onto the mat.
Kozuki (smirking): "You ready?"
Rei exhaled slowly and nodded.
The duel began.
The First Exchange – Rei's Instincts Falter
💥 Kozuki moved first.
✔ A step forward—faster than expected.✔ A sudden shift—his body feinting left, then right.✔ A sharp elbow strike—coming from an awkward angle.
Rei barely dodged.
Rei (thinking, eyes narrowing): His movement is… unnatural.
Unlike Kenji, who had a rhythm, Kozuki was erratic.
💥 Kozuki switched from elbows to a low kick.💥 Then from a low kick to a backstep and spinning punch.💥 Then, without warning—he did nothing, just standing there.
Rei hesitated.
Kozuki grinned.
Kozuki (mocking): "What's wrong, Kurogane? Can't read me?"
Rei clenched his fists.
For the first time since he started refining his instincts…
He couldn't predict what was coming next.
The Watching Students – Shock and Awe
The spectators felt it too.
Student 1 (wide-eyed): "Rei isn't dodging like before…"Student 2 (gulping): "Kozuki's fighting like a maniac. How do you analyze something like that?"Student 3 (whispering): "This might be the first time Rei's struggling to keep up…"
Meanwhile, Souta Arclight and Akari Kisaragi watched with tense expressions.
Akari (arms crossed): "Kozuki's not just strong. He's the worst type of opponent for someone like Rei."Souta (serious): "Yeah. Because he's unpredictable on purpose."
And in the back of the room, Professor Graves grinned.
Graves (thinking): Let's see what you do now, Kurogane.
Rei's Mind Races – Finding a New Strategy
Rei kept dodging, but his reactions were slower.
His usual flawless predictions weren't working.
Rei (gritted teeth): If I can't analyze his pattern…
Kozuki smirked and launched forward.
💥 A palm strike—Rei dodged.💥 A knee to the ribs—Rei barely avoided.💥 A sudden stop—Kozuki backed off just to throw Rei off.
Rei's mind struggled to grasp the rhythm.
He wasn't winning.
He was surviving.
And Kozuki was having fun.
Kozuki (grinning): "If you can't read me, then how do you plan to fight back?"
Rei exhaled.
For the first time…
He would have to fight without relying on predictions.
It was time for him to evolve again.
