Chapter 12: phase Omega the end of evolution 

Boom!

Adrian collided with Erebus.

The impact sent a shockwave through the entire facility, cracking the walls and shattering the floor beneath them.

For the first time—Erebus was pushed back.

Vanessa's eyes widened.

Adrian's golden veins blazed, brighter than ever. His energy pulsed, raw and untamed, as if something inside him had finally awakened.

His limiters were gone.

And his body was evolving again.

Erebus snarled, its void-like eyes flickering with something almost like… uncertainty.

Adrian clenched his fists, feeling the raw power surging through him.

Vanessa's shock quickly melted into a smile.

"Yes… yes! That's it!" she breathed, her golden eyes burning with excitement.

"This is what I wanted to see, Adrian! You were always meant to be the pinnacle! The true evolution! Don't you see?" She stretched her arms wide. "You and Erebus—you are the future of humanity!"

Adrian's gaze hardened.

Vanessa's voice turned almost… pleading.

"Join me."

Sophie froze.

Evelyn's grip on her daggers tightened. "Like hell he will."

Vanessa ignored her, stepping forward.

"You could be so much more, Adrian. Don't fight it. This is your destiny."

Adrian exhaled, his golden energy swirling around him.

He looked at Vanessa, his expression unreadable.

Erebus roared—and the entire facility shook.

Adrian barely had time to react before everything turned to chaos.

The air shattered.

Erebus's body convulsed, its exoskeleton breaking apart, revealing something monstrous beneath.

Its arms stretched unnaturally long, its fingers twisting into razor-sharp claws that pulsed with void energy. Its chest split open, revealing a writhing mass of golden veins and darkness intertwined.

And its face—

Its face was no longer humanoid. It was shifting. Warping. A nightmare given form.

Adrian barely had time to react before—

Erebus moved.

Faster than anything Adrian had ever seen.

A fist slammed into his gut.

His body folded inward. The force was so immense that the very air exploded around him.

Adrian was sent flying through three walls.

Pain screamed through his body, but his mind barely had time to register it—because Erebus was already there.

Adrian couldn't keep up.

Erebus was evolving too.

Sophie screamed. "Adrian!"

Lucas cursed. "We need to do something!"

Evelyn gritted her teeth. "We can't. He's—"

"Dying."

Vanessa's voice was almost… disappointed.

She watched the chaos unfold, her golden eyes gleaming.

"This is why you should've listened, Adrian," she said, shaking her head. "Erebus is the pinnacle. It has no flaws. No weaknesses."

She stepped forward, her boots clicking against the ruined floor.

"And now…" She smiled. "It will erase you."

Erebus lifted Adrian by the throat.

The golden glow in Adrian's veins flickered. Dimming.

His body was shutting down.

His evolution had reached its limit.

Sophie's hands clenched into fists. "No… No, this isn't how it ends."

She turned to Vanessa, rage burning in her eyes.

"You think he's reached his limit?" she snapped.

Vanessa tilted her head. "He has."

Sophie shook her head.

"Then you don't know Adrian."

She stepped forward.

"He's not like your creations. He's not like you."

Sophie's voice rose.

"He's not just evolving to survive—he evolves to win."

Adrian's eyes snapped open.

Erebus paused.

And then—Adrian roared.

His voice was calm, but it carried a weight that sent a shiver down Vanessa's spine.

"I don't know," he admitted. "But I do know one thing."

Erebus lunged.

But Erebus—did not obey.

It twitched. Stumbled.

Then, it turned its head—and looked at her.

Vanessa's breath hitched.

Something shifted in Erebus's void-like gaze.

And then—it spoke.

"…No."

The word was guttural. Raw.

Vanessa's heart stopped.

Adrian frowned. "It can talk?"

Vanessa took a step back. "That's—" She clenched her fists. "Impossible."

Erebus wasn't supposed to think.

It wasn't supposed to choose.

But now—it was looking at Vanessa with something that resembled recognition.

And hatred.

"…You made me this way."

Vanessa's golden eyes widened.

Erebus took a step toward her.

Then another.

Its body was falling apart—but it didn't care.

It was no longer fighting Adrian.

It was coming for her.

Adrian's flames flickered around him as he watched, his expression unreadable.

Vanessa's breathing shook.

"You… will obey me," she whispered. "I created you."

Erebus laughed.

A dry, empty sound.

"You… destroyed me."

And then—it lunged.

Vanessa screamed.
