Chapter 108: Not Bad, You Almost Took Me Down!
"Oh? They're finally fighting!" Hu Jia's eyes lit up from across the arena. Dressed in her signature red outfit, she was always entertained by fights, especially those between old rivals. She was curious to see how many moves Lu Bu could endure against Bai Shan.
"Bai Shan... impatient and narrow minded," Wu Hao commented with a glance. As for Lu Bu? He didn't seem worth mentioning.
"Brother Xiao Yan…" Xiao Xun'er stood by Xiao Yan's side, shoulder to shoulder with Nalan Yanran. The three wore solemn expressions as they focused intently on Lu Bu's direction.
The battle at Yun Lan Sect had left a lasting impression on them. Lu Bu's strength was terrifying; he had heavily injured a Dou Zong with a single move. While it was a sneak attack, who cared about fairness in battle? Although Lu Bu's Dou Qi rank wasn't high, his combat strength wasn't something to underestimate. Xiao Yan wanted to fight him, but he wasn't foolish.
"Damn it!" Bai Shan was furious. His sharp spear thrust had been deflected by Lu Bu with such ease, leaving him with the frustrating feeling of punching thin air. Gritting his teeth, he roared, "Everyone, attack together! Take him down!"
At his command, seven fighters around Bai Shan surged forward. A dazzling array of Dou Techniques erupted, bombarding Lu Bu from all directions.
"Ah! Lu Bu's surrounded!"
The girls from Yellow Class Two cried out in alarm. Although Lu Bu hadn't been with them long, he'd left a strong impression handsome, powerful, and capable of easily defeating Bai Shan.
"Damn Bai Shan! Can't beat him alone, so he calls for help?"
"Exactly! I used to think he was charming, but now he seems so spineless!"
The girls' voices rose in unison, their disdain for Bai Shan growing.
"Ha ha ha… As expected," one of the elders on the high platform chuckled as he stroked his beard. Watching the seven fighters surround Lu Bu, he nodded slightly.
"This does seem a bit unfair, doesn't it?"
"Not at all. Reputation and the ability to rally others are forms of strength too."
"That said, Lu Bu seems to be in some trouble. Being attacked by seven advanced Dou Fighters, with Bai Shan waiting for an opportunity to strike…"
"Perhaps, but look at his face. Do you see any trace of panic?"
On the battlefield, the seven fighters unleashing their Dou Techniques suddenly found their target vanishing before their eyes.
"Be careful! He's fast!" Bai Shan barked, his body crackling with arcs of lightning as he scanned the battlefield with sharp eyes, fully focused on locating Lu Bu.
And then…
Bang! Bang! Bang!
A series of dull thuds echoed as five of the attackers were sent flying like broken kites, blood spurting from their mouths as they crashed off the platform, unable to stand.
"Wow… turns out he's got some skill," Hu Jia remarked, her expression tinged with surprise.
"His speed is decent. Faster than I expected," Wu Hao muttered, his massive blood colored sword sweeping through a few nearby opponents as he turned his attention to Bai Shan and Lu Bu's fight.
"Seems like Bai Shan's no match for him," Xiao Yan said grimly.
Xiao Xun'er thought for a moment before recounting the first time she saw Lu Bu when he was calmly refining pills.
"A Three Stripe Green Spirit Pill… I remember he was already a Dou Grandmaster back in the Imperial Capital," Nalan Yanran added, tapping her chin thoughtfully. "His current strength should be around six or seven stars."
"Impressive…" Xiao Yan licked his lips, his fighting spirit only growing stronger. Overcoming higher ranked opponents wasn't new to him. Since he started cultivating, when had he ever fought enemies of equal strength?
He wasn't about to be intimidated by someone else's higher rank.
"Now's my chance!" Bai Shan's eyes gleamed as he shouted and charged. Lu Bu had just finished his attack, and Bai Shan assumed he was at his weakest.
"Lu Bu, don't think you can act recklessly just because you've beaten me once!"
Electric light erupted from Bai Shan's body as he bellowed, his silver spear spinning fiercely. The wind howled as arcs of lightning coiled around the spear, surging with ferocious power.
"Looks like Bai Shan's going for a quick resolution," Hu Jia commented, her expression slightly surprised that Bai Shan was unleashing such a powerful Dou Technique right from the start.
"So he's taking this seriously…" Wu Hao muttered, his face darkening. Though he looked down on Bai Shan's character, he couldn't deny Bai Shan's strength. Wu Hao himself had never been able to defeat him in their past clashes.
"Interesting," Xiao Yan murmured, his fists clenching and unclenching as his anticipation grew. He could hardly wait for Lu Bu to finish this fight so he could step in next.
"Why is Bai Shan using such a strong technique so early?" one of the elders on the platform remarked in surprise.
"Oh… that's Lu Bu down there. He and Bai Shan have a lot of unresolved history."
"Ah, Lu Bu! I remember him. Ha ha ha, I saw the footage from the recording talisman. Honestly, you can't really blame Lu Bu for that incident…"
"Ha ha, but I doubt Bai Shan sees it that way."
"Here it comes. I'm curious to see Lu Bu's true strength. That boy's composure during the earlier matches was something else far more poised than I ever was at his age."
…
"Lu Bu! The humiliation you brought upon me will end today! I will use this battle to show the world that you… are nothing but a fraud!" Bai Shan roared, raising his spear high as lightning crackled around him.
With a stomp, he launched into the air, a curtain of light trailing behind him as his spear descended like a thunderbolt.
"Shocking Thunder Burst Arc!"
The silver spear transformed into a massive arc of lightning, hurtling downward with dazzling radiance, like a silver sun streaking through the sky.
Lu Bu smiled faintly, making no attempt to dodge. Instead, he raised his left hand above his head. His bare arm glimmered with a faint blue gold hue not dazzling, but clearly visible.
Boom!
The spear struck Lu Bu's raised hand with the force of an axe cleaving a mountain. The resulting explosion sent shockwaves rippling across the arena. Dust and debris flew everywhere, obscuring the battlefield in a thick cloud.
For a moment, the noisy arena fell into an eerie silence as everyone turned their attention to the battle. All eyes were on the swirling dust, eagerly awaiting the outcome of the clash.
"So arrogant, trying to block my attack head on…" Bai Shan sneered as he landed lightly on the ground. Next, he would face Xiao Yan.
But then he noticed Xiao Yan looking at the smoke with a calm expression, even pointing at it mockingly.
Bai Shan's pupils shrank in alarm. Before he could react, his grip on his spear loosened it had been snatched away!
The next moment, a piercing sound ripped through the air as a streak of silver appeared in his peripheral vision.
No… Bai Shan's heart sank in terror.
Bang!
A silver rod his own spear shot out of the smoke, striking Bai Shan squarely in the face.
With a scream, he was sent flying, blood splattering in the air. A few of his teeth followed suit, spinning away like broken pearls.
Lu Bu emerged from the smoke, smiling as he held Bai Shan's spear. He examined it briefly before snapping it over his knee with a loud crack! Tossing the broken tip aside, he twirled the remaining shaft like a baseball bat.
Bai Shan clutched his bleeding mouth, staring at Lu Bu in disbelief. His ultimate attack hadn't even left a scratch.
"Not bad, Bai Shan. You almost got me!" Lu Bu said with a grin, holding his thumb and forefinger millimeters apart to indicate just how close Bai Shan had come.
Considering that Lu Bu's clothes were pristine and his hair perfectly in place, that "almost" could probably encompass the entire Jia Nan Academy.
