A new day, a new challenge.
Marcus had made up his mind—he needed to join a dojo. Watching videos and practicing alone could only take him so far. If he was serious about becoming the greatest martial artist, he needed real sparring, real experience. But there was one problem.
His family.
They all knew he liked martial arts, sure. But they didn't know just how deep his obsession ran. If they found out he wanted to train seriously, they'd ask questions—questions he wasn't ready to answer. His best bet was to get his dad on board first. Jonathan Carter was a busy man, but he was also the most reasonable person in the house. If Marcus could get his approval, the rest wouldn't matter.
Now, he just had to convince him.

The Negotiation Begins
"Dad," Marcus said over breakfast, keeping his tone casual, "have you ever thought about how important self-defense is?"
Jonathan barely looked up from his coffee. "Mhm."
Marcus pressed on. "I mean, with how crazy the world is, wouldn't it make sense for me to learn how to protect myself?"
Jonathan glanced up, finally paying attention. "What's this about?"
Marcus shrugged. "I was thinking about joining a dojo. Learn some discipline, stay in shape."
Jonathan set his mug down, studying his son for a moment. "Martial arts, huh? You sure this isn't just a phase?"
Marcus smirked. "Dad, I don't do phases."
Jonathan chuckled. "Fair point." He leaned back, considering. "You really want this?"
"Yeah."
Jonathan nodded slowly. "Alright. I'll look into some dojos nearby. But on one condition—school comes first."
Marcus grinned. "Obviously."
Jonathan gave him a pointed look. "I mean it, Marcus. No slipping grades, no getting distracted. If you want to do this, prove to me you can balance it."
Marcus placed a hand over his chest. "Dad, you wound me. I am the epitome of responsibility."
Jonathan snorted. "Sure you are."

Mission Success (Almost)
Marcus felt good about that. His dad was on board, which meant he was one step closer to actual training.
But the hard part wasn't over yet.
Now, he had to keep it a secret from everyone else.
Vanessa would be concerned about injuries. Sophie, despite being eight, was way too observant and would absolutely snitch. And if Alex found out? He'd never hear the end of it.
He just had to play it cool. Keep his training low-key. No big deal… right?
As he left for school, Marcus popped a lollipop into his mouth, already planning his next move.
Step one: Find the right dojo.
Step two: Keep it hidden.
Step three: Don't get caught.
Easy.
Right?
