Chapter 15: Hope Not Lost

Brie’s POV

My parents always said when I was upset, I trained harder. The sweat rolling down my face and arms was a testament to that. Lynx left without a word and as tempted as I was to text him, I didn’t. I couldn’t. I had just rejected him, and it was clear he needed some space. He probably wasn’t used to being rejected, especially not by a high school senior.

I, Aubrielle Dakota Matthews, rejected a college graduate for my best friend. Who would've thought?

I lay on the mat, my back rising and falling against the cool blue mat as I struggled to catch my breath. What has my life become? I sat up, my knees raised high as I tucked my head between them, my stomach growling.

Lynx had a point. If we ran into each other at the same place maybe then we could’ve eaten together.

“Looks like I have perfect timing.” The smooth voice filled the quiet gym.
