Chapter 36: Bringing Home the Gold

Brie’s POV

I’m sweating, my nerves are steadily creeping back in as I search through the crowd for my people, my three biggest supporters. I know my mom was already here; she had found me moments ago to bring me my team leotard for competitions. It’s been a tradition at every competition; it was the only way she could see me to wish me luck before the competition, and she relished that.

As I searched the crowd, I spotted my mother talking animatedly to my father.

Two down, one to go.

My eyes continued to scan the rows of people filling the gymnasium. This was the first home competition of the season, most likely because it was the only gym in the area that was large enough to host an event of this magnitude. A pair of solid green eyes collide with mine, and my breath stops again.

What is he doing here? He shouldn’t be here!
