Ivy's Pov,
My breath was caught against my chest. An impulsive brandish of realism hit me when his voice came up, clarifying the truth, "C'mon, you know I need to return to Ivy. We can't just chew up the plan now. I am yet to get my other inheritances from her." he smiled, holding her closer.
Oh! The inheritance!? Were they the gifts his grandfather gifted me after agreeing to marry him?
Our marriage was arranged by our grandfathers and we never met once before until a few days before our wedding.
Those gifts were personally handed over to me and consisted of the cabin we lived in, three cars we had in the cabin garage and a nice farm land which was part of his family inheritances.
I picked up my phone and dialed his number, my heat racing. I need an explanation. I just couldn't interrogate him in the hospital. I am a responsible lady.
He looked at the lady with a frown and said, "She is calling,"
"I think she has the right to know who you are, tell her now," the lady urged him, and her words burned into my flesh and I grunted angrily.
"Hello, Ivy," I heard Dexter say, his voice twisted, sounding more constructed and different.
My throat constructed painfully, thinking of how many times I had long to have him healthy to call me like this but he had never for once picked up a call since he couldn't move. His phone could be beside him all day.
"Dexter, I call you for an explanation about your identity. Tell me the truth. You never have any health issues…" my words barely escaped my lips when he cut me off.
"I am not in for long talk…" he snapped, his voice icy.
Oh! A pain stung my body, sharp and suffocating. He had never yelled nor had he screamed at me before. Absolutely, on normal days, it was hard to believe he could do that.
"Dexter!" I called, my heat sinking.
Abruptly, he cut off the call.
I stared at the phone in daze. Definitely, I wanna go crazy with my thoughts going twirl messier.
I looked at him, he was still sitting, but the lady distanced her body away from his body and she sprouted angrily, "Why are you trying to stop the truth?" out of anger she reclined in her seat, fuming.
"Dinah, I told you I have this plan up. This isn't the appropriate time…"
His voice crossed through my heart and he continued, "I know how tiring carrying this can be but don't forget you are the future Luna of my pack and we can't just let this go out at this time…"
No! The revelation hitched my breath for a while. Was he truly an Alpha and he lied to me? How did it actually happen when I always locked him in? It was far from the reality I ever thought, it was deeper and mysterious.
The glimpse of betrayal and a fall into the game pierced my heart deeply. I didn't know how simping about this. He surely had me manipulated with a fake personality. Also, He had been cheating and impregnating another lady.
I watched as the pregnant lady looked up at him in the eyes. I could see the anger and jealousy flickering in her brows. "When will that be? You keep on postponing the whole thing. It is going to be a year since your inheritance has been handed to you. Isn't it because you married her? It is time for you to let go of that slinking omega." She spoke out of anger and I felt my heart broken into pierce.
I thought he loved me. I thought he cared about me and the only thing I could do to appreciate him was to leave my abode and take care of him in his feeble state. How could I know that the person I thought loved me had actually used me and was planning to leave me?
To think he had married me to get his other inheritances was so putrid and agonizing.
"I still need a lot to do regarding that, Dinah. The pack is still struggling under my care and …"
"You can't strive with that omega as your mate. It can strive with me and you. Soon, the Crescent pack will hear about you mating with an Omega and they may cancel their support to your pack." I glimpsed the acceptance in his eyes. He agreed with her with a nod and I just couldn't believe it.
"You are right. I will show her my identity…"
Devastated, I felt a wave of disappointment rush through my mind. Did he just agree to this?
My heart pounded so hard. Was it the same man I married with a disability and pitied? What stopped him from pitying me too after I had left everything I had and achieved behind me just to be with him?
"Hey," a voice said behind me, startling me.
When I turned back, I saw Ben standing behind me, his face cracked into a frown.
"Is Kim alright?" he asked, noticing the tears on my face.
I faked a smile, trying to hide my pain and heart broke. I replied, "Yes, she is. She is being attended to in the emergency ward."
"Then you don't have to sob. I am sure she will be alright," he consoled, holding my hands.
A frown registered on my face, "Am I sobbing?" I asked bewildered.
"Of course you are. Those tears seem to hold emotion. Hope Kim…"
"She is fine. I need to attend to the bill anyway. I will cover it all." I said, trying to run away from Ben probing acts.
He looked shocked. "I am not aware you get such money, Ivy. Or you aren't telling us something," he teased and I smiled.
I actually decided to use my past to pay Kim's bill.
Ignoring him, I left him wandering.
None of them knew who I was. Working with humans made a real difference from working with werewolves. You wouldn't be talking about the shifting, war and full moon.
Humans also got a lot of patience uncommon in werewolves' world; neither did they put much emphasis on pattern of leadership like werewolves. They always had trust issues and also fought over irrelevant issues.
I paid with my werewolf card and then returned to look for Ben. Most times, I kept my surveillance for Dexter and his mistress and luckily, I caught them leaving the hospital without being seen.
I didn't want to wash our linen in public, that was the only thing I hated to do.
"You can go back to work. I will take over from here, that is why I come," Ben said to me and I nodded.
Back at the bar, Mr. Kinsley seemed to avoid me when he saw me.
I made my way to the kitchen and I saw Irene and Hannah, both waitresses trying to cook and I burst into laughter.
"Hope the bar won't collapse with you two cooking?" I teased.
"Well, I also think so. But you know how your boss behaves. Well, welcome back. I have been praying for your return unless I will get the heart attack our boss refused to get when Ben quit," Irene grumbled and I chuckled, washing my hands.
"Well, I am back. One of you can leave and the other can fill in for Kim if you want," I said while busying myself with work.
After work, I went to the hospital to check on Kim before heading home.
My zeal to return home every day was ruined, faded by the emotion corrupted I branched into. Only pain stinging my heart I felt.
My body was corded with sweat and my heart was broken to pieces. I was tired and looking drained and old.
He was home, the lights were all on and I pushed the front door open.
The sitting room was in total disarray and my stomach almost cracked at the sight of it.
The throw pillows, books, flowers and more were all scattered on the floor.
'What happened here?' I asked myself, my tone bare left my lips.
I didn't even have the will to face him yet.
He sat on a sofa unbothered by the state of the room, my birthday cake and some cookies in front of him. Around him were some unwrapped presents.
He never did as if he noticed me. He sat unmovable, the same way he had fooled me, laying paralyzed, manipulating me.
He didn't even look like my husband though he showed his true identity as advised by his mistress.
"Sign that!" he snapped, picking up a green file beside the cake and tossed it to the couch in front of me without looking at me. His voice also changed into hoarse, arrogant and dominant.
I looked at the file and read, "Divorce!"
