The air in the safe house was tense as Alexa stared at 'Baby's' screen. The list of names from the Project A-13 file burned into her memory. Amelia was alive, but why?
She clicked on the institution's live security feeds again, switching between the different camera angles. Training rooms, laboratories, sleeping quarters... but something felt off.
Some of the feeds were now blacked out.
"They know someone was in the system," she muttered.
Lila's expression darkened. "They must've activated lockdown protocols."
Reaching the Undercover Medics
Alexa knew she had only one option—contact the insiders.
She pulled up the secure communication channel linked to the undercover medics inside the institution. It was a simple text-based system, disguised as a routine medical update log. She typed quickly:
Phoenix to White Dove. Urgent. Are you still in position?
Seconds passed. Then a reply appeared.
**White Dove here. Brief window to talk. What happened?**
Alexa took a deep breath.
Amelia's name appeared under Project A-13. What do you know?
There was a long pause. Then:
Not safe to say much. But she's in a restricted section. Not in general population anymore. Something changed.
A chill ran down Alexa's spine.
Where is she? she typed.
South Wing. Laboratory B-7. Increased security. No access for standard staff.
Alexa frowned. "South Wing? That area wasn't always restricted."
Lila leaned over. "That's where most of the medical experiments used to happen."
Raines nodded. "If they've moved Amelia there, it means she's part of something bigger."
The System Fights Back
Suddenly, *Baby's* screen flickered.
A new message flashed in bold red text:
INTRUSION DETECTED. CONNECTION TERMINATED.
Alexa cursed under her breath as the system forced her out. The institution had just cut off all external access.
"They know someone was talking to White Dove," she realized.
Lila clenched her fists. "They'll start looking for the mole."
Alexa turned to Raines, her expression unreadable. "I need to get back into the system."
"You can't," he said firmly. "They'll track you this time."
"I don't care," Alexa shot back. "Amelia is in there, and she's in danger. If we don't move fast, we might lose our chance to save her."
The room was silent. Alexandra placed a hand on Alexa's arm. "We'll figure out a way."
Lila exhaled sharply. "Then we need a new plan. Hacking won't work anymore, so we have to find another way inside."
Alexa looked at the darkened screen of 'Baby', determination burning in her eyes.
"If I can't hack my way in… I'll have to go in myself."Alexandra no I won't I allow it.. think of another way, Alexa ....
