In the 29th year of Konoha, Yuji was discovered by Orochimaru in a remote village in the Land of Water and brought back to Konoha Village. In the same year, Yuji enrolled in Konoha's ninja school.
In the 32nd year of Konoha, Yuji graduated from the ninja school and became a student of Orochimaru.
In the 33rd year of Konoha, on this night, Yuji, who had followed Orochimaru on multiple B-rank missions, encountered the most powerful enemy he had ever faced: life distant, death near.
As the night grew silent, the sound of night owls echoed from far to near, with a woman's sharp voice that stirred the heartstrings.
Under the moonlight, although the light in the forest was dim, it was enough to clearly see a flash of cold light from the sky, appearing and disappearing in an instant.
Clang!
The intense sound of metal echoed throughout the forest.
Sparks flew, and a glimmer appeared in Yuji's dark eyes. Despite his hand trembling slightly as it tightly gripped the kunai, it remained as unyielding as a rock. If he were to retreat, the sharp weapon with a gleaming edge would mercilessly slit his throat.
"You can see my sword clearly, very good, but still not enough."
The hidden wariness in Darui's eyes became apparent. Yet, he seemed obsessed with the thrill of slaying a genius, often saying a few words after Yuji blocked his blade, completely unlike his usual cold demeanor.
Yuji remained silent to Darui's words, or rather, he had no strength left to speak. As Darui had said, Yuji could clearly see Darui's lightning-fast strikes and the trajectory of the attacks from above. However, despite years of tough training that had greatly enhanced his physical abilities compared to others of his age, it was still not enough to match a grown man who also specialized in physical strength.
So, even though Yuji could see Darui's attacks clearly, his body couldn't support a counterattack. He could only desperately defend against Darui's powerful force and thunderous speed.
He believed there was still a chance, albeit a slim one.
However, from the moment they began fighting, he realized how naive he had been.
His proud physical abilities were crushed by Darui, and his somewhat confident chakra control was ineffective. Faced with the unrelenting assault from the enemy, he couldn't even use ninjutsu. He could only rely on his kunai to block Darui's blade again and again. Surprisingly, it was his eyes, which he had never paid much attention to, that became the key to his survival.
Clang! Clang! Clang...
In the dim forest, sparks occasionally flashed.
"This brat!"
Seeing the repeated, tricky attacks being deflected by Yuji, Darui's hidden wariness became visible in his eyes. Though he had initially regarded Yuji as a rare genius, given their power difference, he had underestimated Yuji and hadn't used his full strength at first. Though he was still able to suppress Yuji and make him suffer, he couldn't effectively harm him.
Once again, after a close-quarter clash, Darui used an unrelenting amount of strength to pin Yuji down. He stared at Yuji with furrowed brows and coldly said, "I really underestimated you."
Suddenly, under Yuji's astonished gaze, a current of lightning surged across Darui's body.
He sheathed his blade and struck!
As the lightning flickered, the blade gleamed with a cold, lethal killing intent.
Yuji's eyes shrank sharply. He instantly sensed a drastic increase in Darui's speed.
"Die, brat!"
The short sword, which was also crackling with lightning, passed through Yuji's kunai block and stabbed towards his throat.
In his vision, it seemed like there was only flashing lightning, a familiar sensation engraved deep in his soul. In an instant, it surged through his entire body.
When did he ever experience such unbearable feeling?
Time seemed to freeze in that moment. The only time he had felt such discomfort had been the moment he had faced death.
"No!!!"
Yuji was unable to block the suddenly faster blade with his kunai, but his body was still a short distance away from the sword, enough to react.
Puff!
In a hair-raising moment, Yuji quickly shifted slightly to the right. Darui's seemingly decisive strike only pierced through Yuji's collarbone.
Enduring the pain, Yuji threw the kunai in his hand towards Darui while simultaneously kicking towards Darui's abdomen.
To Darui's surprise, Yuji managed to react in time and dodge the fatal strike. He couldn't believe it when he saw the kunai coming toward his face. Without drawing back his sword, Darui knew the blade was sharp and attempted to turn the sword horizontally, aiming to sever Yuji's head by cutting through his bone. He turned his head to avoid the kunai, while his wrist twisted, ready to slash off Yuji's head. But before he could act, he felt a force in his abdomen.
Boom!
Darui was kicked back by Yuji and sent flying, the knife still lodged in his collarbone.
Yuji pressed his hand to his bleeding wound, and his eyes turned terrifyingly cold, like a hungry lone wolf spotting food after a long time.
"Lightning, Raiton...!"
Yuji's eyes gleamed with cold determination as he looked at Darui, who lay on the ground, still wrapped in strands of lightning.
"Is it possible to use it like this...?"
With a soft mutter, Yuji slowly lowered his head. As a thought arose, he seemed to feel the cells of his body jump in sync.
"So, this is how it can be used..."
