Surviving in the Wilderness

I opened my eyes to see the green top of the hammock tent thing I currently slept in. I had a heard time sleeping in it at first but it quickly became surprisingly comfortable.

The past few days had certainly been an adventure but it was mostly just the struggle of basic survival. Distant thumping echoed as revealing the presence of a truly horrifying creature.

Oh and that, the other main struggle. I called them Jebb. Yes with two b's, I found it entertaining and there was no one to judge me so I allowed myself some ridiculousness.

Zipping open my hammock I briefly admired the sunrise. Of course I couldn't really look towards it much but I still enjoyed it none the less.

In the distance I saw the massive crab like form of Jebb hunting down some random cursed.

I was living on the side of a cliff, I originally was just looking for a cave but cursed creatures seemed to love them aswell so they would likely be far too dangerous. So I basically just found a nice spot on the side of a cliff and put my hammock there.

The main reason I chose this spot was because Jebb lived here though. He wasn't too hard to evade but no flying cursed would go anywhere near something like him.

I didn't actually know his gender but I didn't care. He was a him to me.

I took out my water bottle but it was empty, It was a big three litre one which allowed me to only fill it now and again.

I had to get more water before anything else so I decided to venture along the cliff towards where I knew a river was. It only took a few minutes to get there and the cliff wasn't a particularly dangerous one so I just had to head over.

The path I took had been the same one I had taken the past few days. It was the shortest path towards the river and had an absolutely amazing view. It couldn't compare to the view from my hammock of course but one of the reason I had set it up there was the view. I needed it honestly, my feelings were understandably quite negative.

I tried not to let it get to me and these little things were one of the ways I had to help.

Arriving at the little river I looked at it's little stream for a moment before opening my bottle and filling it with as much water as I could before strapping it back on my side.

I simply made my way back after that. It was kind of monotonous at this point but of course I needed water so there was nothing I could really do.

After bringing the water back I distilled it using two pots and a tarp I had. The process wasted a lot of water but it was necessary to ensure I didn't have anything infectious or radioactive. Something radioactive would bypass my protection if I ingest it so I had to be careful.

It took three trips in total to get a full bottle of clean water plus a pot extra which I was using to make some noodles.

I placed a small mineral pill into the water water. distilled water water got rid of all dangers completely but in return got rid of all minerals and in return risked the water sapping the minerals from my body which is quite bad. These little pills were a concentrated dose of minerals, I had hundreds of them so I wouldn't have to worry about running dry and they made sure I suffered no ill effects from the water.

Cooking wasn't exactly a skill I had previously so I was just mainly winging it. It took a lot of time and a bit too much of my food to get it right and make it edible.

I stirred the pot of noodles for a bit before deciding they were ready. I poured the water into another pot while using my hand to stop the noodles from falling out alongside the water.

The water was incredibly hot and the pain was made even worse by the curse from elemental resistance. I could bare it though, mainly because I knew it wouldn't cause any damage but also because of the detached state I seemed to almost always be in lately.

I didn't know if this was an effect of my blessing or if it was because of the trauma but either way it didn't matter, it is what it is.

You would think my blessing could help with negating the pain but as it turned out it couldn't. Well no it could but I found out that the increased sensitivity from the elemental resistance's curse made it simply impossible to make my pain disappear. The sensitivity was an inherent part of the ability and so if I tried to take that away in any way the ability would just vanish alongside the pain.

'Surviving sure takes a lot, every detail needs to be accounted for. Makes me realise just how much the MTV actually did.'

I placed some cured meat from my supply on a cutting board and sliced them into small pieces before placing them into the other pot of drinkable water. It was noddle tasting water but I didn't really care. I just used the water as a way to quickly take off most of the salt from the cured meat. It meant my meal wouldn't be as salty.

Opening up a little bit of concentrate scouse I added it with a some water before adding it to the noodles alongside the meat. I wasn't really much of a cook but the simple meal made me feel sort of proud.

I sighed, knowing what the day ahead of me would bring. I had decided that today I would begin hunting cursed.

It definitely wouldn't be any harder then what I had experienced but it was still more risky without the safety net of a full squad to back me up. I looked at the pile of wooden spears I had made for today. Well I could barely see them from this height but none the less they were there also calling them spears might be a bit to much credit. They were basically just sharpened sticks but none the less this is what I had to kill the things with.

Normally a wooden stick would have little to no effect on a cursed creature even when sharpened, after all the spear would likely just melt before it did any damage but recently I had learnt what I hoped was a solution to that.

I had learnt to manipulate roh outside my body. It wasn't exactly good but I was still able to. Unfortunately it didn't bolster the weapon in any way but it allowed the spear to resist the corrosive effect of the cursed.

That was in theory of course which meant I had no choice but to test it. I was fairly sure I could beat a weak cursed hand to hand with minor injuries.

Opening the zip to my hammock after enjoying my meal I sat there for a second gathering courage then begun climbing down the cliffside. The first time doing this was easily the most dangerous but now that I had a rope securely tied down the trips up and down were a lot easier.

'Why did so many supplies have to be hidden away in the MTV only for someone to find only after it was smashed? I mean probably something to do with not wanting squads to split up but these ropes would have been really nice earlier.

The extra supplies even had a carabiner which after a little experimenting I found let me do a whole lot especially when it came to mountaineering.

It made me even appreciate just how much they managed to put of these outfits. It was like a multitool but for equipment. All while being sturdy and light.

Once I finally landed on the ground I looked around for a second before finding the pile of sharpened sticks I had made. I picked one up and tried to flow my roh into it. Some flowed inside of the stick but most of it simply went into the open air and disappeared.

The process took massive amounts of roh for what it did but ever since I got my blessing roh had never really been an issue. It felt like I couldn't run out of it even if I tried. Well actually I did try to no success.

'Maybe I should have gotten a more powerful ability. Acceleration is the only fairly high cost one I have but its easy trying to push more roh into the ability to boost it.'

Once I had as many spears as I could strapped to my back I looked around to find the divot I had been using as a path. It was a good way to hide from Jebb while trying to get out of his territory.

I couldn't hear Jebb's footsteps so I knew he wasn't around but it was good to be safe. All it took was one mistake to die out here so making safety a habit was essential.

Then again I was going out to kill a cursed so maybe safety wasn't my first concern.

Speaking of which the creature I'm hunting today, its apparently called a corno ent.
