The world around her was fading, Evelyn drifted in an endless void, weightless, her body neither in pain nor at peace. A soft, whispering wind curled around her, carrying distant voices…some familiar, others foreign.
Then, two figures emerged from the darkness.
One was a woman, tall, regal, and fierce. Evelyn's breath caught in her throat when she realized… It was her. An older, more powerful version of herself, eyes glowing like embers, her aura radiating strength and wisdom.
The second figure was also her, her younger self, fragile, weary, and defeated, wrapped in doubt. The two stood on opposite sides, and Evelyn found herself trapped between them.
"Stand up," the older Evelyn urged, stepping forward. "You can't die here. You still have a battle to win."
The younger version, however, shook her head, her voice soft but firm. "Why keep fighting? You've done enough, Evelyn. You've given everything. And what did you get in return? Betrayal."
The words struck deep, a dagger twisting in her heart.
Damien's face flashed in her mind, his horrified expression when he stabbed her, his lips parting in a silent apology as she bled out. A sharp pain bloomed in her chest.
The younger Evelyn drew closer to her, eyes pleading. "Rest, Evelyn. Let go. They don't deserve you. Let them fight their own war."
Evelyn hesitated.
A hand grabbed her wrist.
The older Evelyn's grip was strong. "No," she said, her voice like fire. "You don't give up. Not now. You've barely unlocked your true power."
The younger Evelyn glared. "And for what? So they can betray her again?"
"She's not fighting for them," the older one countered. "She's fighting for herself. For the people who still need her. For those who haven't betrayed her."
Evelyn gripped her fists. The battle waged inside her, tearing her apart.
Then…
A voice echoed through the void.
"Evelyn."
She turned.
A shadowy figure in a white robe stood at a distance, his long white beard flowing like mist. His eyes held the weight of time itself, but in them, Evelyn saw something else….love.
Her breath almost stopped.
"…Father?"
He smiled, the lines on his face deepening with warmth.
She tried to move toward him, but an invisible force held her back.
"My child," he said, his voice rich with wisdom. "You are at a crossroads. But the battle is not yet over."
Evelyn's lips trembled. "I don't know if I can do this."
"You can," he said simply. "And you will."
Tears burned in her eyes. "How? The Keep is too strong. The Elders have ancient magic. I don't have enough power to stop them."
Her father stepped closer, his gaze piercing. "Then unlock what is already inside you."
A warm energy wrapped around her, sinking into her bones.
His hands glowed as he touched her forehead, and suddenly, knowledge flooded her, secrets of the Keep, the weakness of the Elders, the power buried deep within her soul. Her body trembled as she absorbed it all.
Her father's smile never faded. "Now, rise."
And with that… he vanished.
A blinding light engulfed her.
The Price of Betrayal
Damien knelt beside Evelyn's unconscious body, his head bowed, his fingers gripping the edge of his sword buried in the dirt. His body shook, silent sobs racking through him.
He had betrayed her.
The weight of his choice crushed him, suffocating him in guilt. The Elders' words still echoed in his mind. Kill Evelyn, and your brother will be free.
He had made his choice.
But had it been the right one?
He didn't have an answer.
A sudden, chilling sound pulled him from his thoughts.
The Keep stood above them, his lips curling into a triumphant grin.
"She's mine now," he growled, lifting Evelyn's limp body and throwing her over his shoulder.
Damien's fingers twitched around his sword, his heart screaming at him to stop this.
But he didn't move.
Not when the Keep turned to leave.
Not when Evelyn's blood dripped onto the dirt.
Not when regret threatened to consume him whole.
But then….
A blast of power shot through the air, striking the Keep in the back.
The force was so strong, he staggered forward, dropping Evelyn with a grunt.
Damien's head snapped up.
Orion stood a few feet away, his body still weak from the poison, his hands trembling but his eyes burned with fury.
Beside him… Damien's own power surged, breaking free on its own.
The Keep turned, rage flashing in his dark eyes.
"You dare…"
Another blast hit him, this time from Damien himself.
The battle had begun.
A Storm Awakens
Orion scooped up Evelyn and rushed her inside while Damien engaged the Keep in a deadly fight. The Keep was furious, his attacks wild and destructive, shaking the very ground beneath them.
A rebel vampire joined Damien, countering the Keep's relentless assault. The fight raged on, but inside…
Orion placed Evelyn on the ground.
Seraphina immediately circled the area with a white powder, her hands moving swiftly as she began an incantation. The air around them crackled with unseen energy.
Evelyn's body convulsed.
Seraphina's eyes flew open.
"She is awakening."
The next morning, tension filled the air. Warriors prepared for another attack. Fear gripped them, Evelyn was still unconscious, and the Keep and the Elders would not stay away for long.
Then… the sky shifted.
Dark clouds rolled in, swallowing the sun. Thunder rumbled, a deep, menacing growl that sent shivers through every living soul.
And then…
A sharp, deafening noise erupted from within the room where Evelyn lay.
Everyone turned, rushing inside.
And there she was.
Evelyn stood in the center of the room, her presence no longer the same.
Her eyes once a piercing blue were now a burning shade of orange, glowing like sizzling fire.
Power pulsed around her, making the very air tremble.
Everyone froze.
Orion took a cautious step forward. "Evelyn…?"
She didn't answer. Her gaze, filled with unrelenting fury, locked onto one person.
Damien.
He bowed his head, unable to meet her gaze.
And then…
The ground trembled beneath her feet as she took slow, measured steps toward him, her power vibrating in waves.
Her emotions were unstable.
Her rage was untamed.
Would she forgive him?
Or was Damien about to pay the ultimate price for his betrayal?
