chapter 75 DESPERATE GAMBLE

: The Desperate Gamble – "We Need a REAL Plan."

After countless failed attempts at both fighting and sneaking past the bandits, the players of Greenhaven had hit their breaking point. No matter what strategy they tried, they ended up respawning back in town, frustrated and exhausted. Some had given up entirely, while others raged in the in-game chat. But instead of quitting, something unexpected happened—they started working together.

---

1. The Town Square Gathering – "Enough Is Enough!"

The respawn zone was more crowded than ever. Players sat slumped against walls, arms crossed, their expressions ranging from irritation to despair. Others paced back and forth, muttering under their breath, while a few aggressively typed their complaints in the in-game chat.

"Alright, what now? We can't fight. We can't sneak. We're STUCK," one player grumbled, kicking a rock across the cobbled street.

"Dude, we can't just sit here," another snapped. "The longer we wait, the more we fall behind!"

"Then what do you suggest?" a third player countered. "Another 'stealth mission'? Didn't work the last five times!"

The tension in the air was thick.

Then, a new presence entered the scene—an older man with a scar across his cheek, wearing worn-out mercenary armor. His name was Malthor, a retired warrior who had seen his fair share of battles. He stopped near the gathered players and let out a low chuckle.

"Hah. You lot are hopeless," he scoffed. "Can't even leave town without getting slaughtered?"

Some players groaned at the insult. Others clenched their fists in frustration.

"Oh, shut up, old man!" someone snapped.

"You think YOU could do better?!" another challenged.

Malthor's grin widened. "Of course. But I'm not the one trying to prove myself as an adventurer."

That shut everyone up.

Then, amid the uneasy silence, a single voice hesitated before speaking.

"Wait… why don't we ask the NPCs for help?"

The idea hung in the air for a second before another player's eyes widened in realization.

"…Holy crap. Why didn't we think of that earlier?!"

---

2. The NPC Strategy – "You Want a Job? Earn It."

A group of players immediately rushed toward Malthor, their earlier hostility replaced with a desperate plea.

"Hey, old man! If you're so great, why don't YOU fight the bandits?" one of them asked.

Malthor raised an eyebrow. "And why should I?"

"Because… we'll pay you!" another player suggested, hopeful.

Malthor let out a deep laugh. "With what? You're all broke."

The players exchanged uneasy glances. He had a point—they had nothing of value.

Then, another NPC stepped forward. Edric, the town's blacksmith, wiped the sweat from his forehead as he spoke.

"If you want the old mercenary to fight, why not work for it? Earn some gold."

"Work? Like… quests?" one of the players asked, hesitant.

"Exactly," Edric said, crossing his arms. "Greenhaven isn't just some safe zone. We got problems too."

Before anyone could respond, another NPC—Lena, the town's merchant—chimed in.

"Think about it," she said, adjusting her apron. "We need resources. You need money. You help us, and maybe then you'll have enough to hire your mercenary."

The players turned to look at each other.

Then, a system announcement appeared.

---

3. New Quests Unlocked – "Welcome to Greenhaven's Problems!"

> [System Announcement]

Players in Greenhaven Town have unlocked Local Quests!

To request help from NPCs, complete tasks for them and earn Gold.

A glowing notification hovered over the town's quest board near the tavern. New missions had appeared, each with its own reward.

[Collect 10 Wolf Pelts – Reward: 5 Silver]

[Help the Blacksmith Gather Ore – Reward: 3 Silver]

[Deliver Supplies to the Herbalist – Reward: 2 Silver]

[Clear Out the Town Sewers – Reward: 6 Silver]

The players crowded around the board, reading through the available quests. For the first time since their struggles began, they had a way forward.

"We… we can actually DO something now?" one player muttered in disbelief.

"These are easy quests!" another said. "We should've done this first!"

"Yeah, well, better late than never."

A ripple of excitement spread through the group as players hurried to grab quests.

4. The Player Reactions – "We're Not Useless Anymore!"

The town square, once a place of frustration and defeat, transformed into a hub of activity. Players began forming groups based on their chosen tasks.

Gatherers armed themselves with skinning knives and headed to the nearby forest to hunt wolves for their pelts.

Miners grabbed pickaxes and made their way toward the rocky outskirts of Greenhaven to collect ore for Edric.

Runners took on delivery quests, darting between merchants and herbalists to transport supplies.

Daredevils prepared to enter the town's underground sewers, grimacing at the smell but eager for the challenge.

For the first time since their arrival in Greenhaven, they weren't just running into death traps.

They were preparing.

5. The NPCs' Reactions – "Finally, They're Doing Something Useful."

As the players threw themselves into work, the townspeople watched with amused expressions.

Edric, the blacksmith, let out a hearty laugh. "Hah! So they can work. Thought they were just walking corpses."

Lena, the merchant, shook her head. "Less complaining, more doing. That's how you survive."

Even Malthor seemed slightly impressed, though he hid it behind a grunt. "Hmph. Maybe there's hope for them yet."

At the tavern, Rowan, the bartender, smirked as he wiped a glass clean.

"Maybe now they'll stop crying in my tavern," he muttered.

---

6. The Turning Point – "This Is Just the Beginning."

The players no longer felt helpless. They were grinding, earning money, and most importantly, they had a plan.

But as they worked tirelessly to gather enough gold to hire Galthor, one thing remained certain—

The bandits weren't sitting still either.
