Chapter 4

The frigid atmosphere within the private room was finally broken by Garrison's voice:

"What did you just call me?"

I didn't respond, turning to leave, but the man's long legs stepped in front of me, blocking my path.

His eyes were icy as he raised his voice and repeated:

"Celestine, I asked you what you just called me?!"

I frowned, confused.

Since childhood, Garrison had emphasized countless times the importance of respecting one's elders, insisting I address him as Mr. Montgomery.

However, desperately wanting to marry him, I never called him that in front of others.

Now, I had finally retreated to the position he'd always wanted me in, as he wished.

Why did he look so displeased?

"Mr. Montgomery, you needn't doubt my sincerity. I swear to God, I genuinely wish you and Sis Sarah a long and happy life together, till death do you part."

Having said what needed to be said, I walked over to my parents, intending to leave with them.

But before I could reach the door, Garrison gripped my arm, his eyes dark as he sneered at me:

"You're being this generous? Celestine, I know you. Since you were little, anything you set your sights on, you'd grab it by force if you had to. That's why I despise you so much."

"I'm warning you. Sarah is about to become my wife. If you dare to bully or frame her like you used to, I won't let you or the Shaw family behind you off the hook."

Even though I had long known Sarah's importance to Garrison, I still instinctively felt my eyes well up with tears at his cold-heartedness.

Remembering my parents' tragic fate in their past life, I had to control my emotions. With a faint smile, I said to him:

"Mr. Montgomery, please rest assured. From now on, I, Celestine, will certainly keep my head down and stay in line.

I absolutely won't show up in front of you and Sister Sarah, sullying your eyes with my presence."

Garrison's expression froze, and he unconsciously let go of his grip.

His thin lips parted slightly, as if he still had something to say.

But I didn't give him the chance to speak, immediately leaving at top speed with my parents, getting far away from this place of trouble.

Within two hours, the entire upper crust of society knew about Garrison rejecting me and Sarah taking my place.

Because of this, I became the laughingstock of the entire city.

If it were anyone else, they would surely shut themselves away from visitors at this time, hiding at home hoping for the scandal to blow over quickly.

But on the very next day after the incident, I accompanied my father to the horse racing club to start discussing business.

Leveraging memories from my past life, I snagged several plots of land and commercial buildings in prime locations at rock-bottom prices, despite their poor reputation.

Even though everyone thought I'd lost my mind after Garrison dumped me and was recklessly blowing through my family fortune.

My parents never once questioned my decisions, supporting me unconditionally as always.

A month later, in a hotel lounge downtown.

I was engrossed in conversation with a female friend when I suddenly felt an imposing presence behind me.

Turning around, I realized it was Garrison standing there.

"Celestine, um, you two keep chatting. Something just came up for me."

Seeing my friend's guilty expression, I finally understood that Garrison had used her to set up this meeting with me.

The man settled in beside me, but before he could speak, I politely stood up and, very considerately, moved to the seat farthest from him.

Then I said to him:

"Mr. Montgomery, I know tomorrow is your wedding day. Please don't worry, even though I received an invitation, I absolutely won't attend and disturb you two."

Garrison froze for a moment, staring at me for a while before saying coldly:

"Grandma asked me to apologize to you for what happened that day."

He paused, then pressed his lips together and added:
