As the echoes of Caelan's words faded, an eerie silence descended upon the entire banquet hall. All eyes were fixed on us.
Kael's face darkened like the bottom of a cast iron skillet:
"Faye, have you lost your mind?!"
"You actually accepted his proposal? Do you have any idea what you're doing?!"
Kael's words erupted in an almost primal roar, his eyes blazing with fury and a hint of something I couldn't quite place – was it jealousy?
I shook my head, dismissing my own wishful thinking.
Five years of devoted love, only to be rewarded with his betrayal and distrust. How could he possibly be jealous of me marrying someone else?
At this moment, I no longer needed his approval or understanding.
"Kael, we've become strangers. My choices are no longer any of your concern," I stated calmly, laying out the facts.
Kael lunged forward, trying to grab my wrist, but Caelan effortlessly blocked him.
"Get your filthy hands off her! Don't you dare touch her!"
