Chapter 16: The Warehouse

Emily's heart was racing as she followed Ben to the old warehouse on the outskirts of town. The building loomed before them, its windows boarded up and its door covered in rust.

Ben glanced around cautiously before pushing open the creaky door. Emily hesitated, feeling a shiver run down her spine.

"Are you sure this is a good idea?" Emily whispered.

Ben nodded. "We have to see this through."

Emily took a deep breath and stepped inside. The warehouse was dimly lit, the only sound the creaking of old wooden beams.

Ben fumbled in his pocket for a flashlight and turned it on, casting a weak beam of light through the darkness.

As they moved deeper into the warehouse, Emily stumbled upon a stack of old crates. Ben helped her climb up, and from the top, they saw a room hidden behind a false wall.

The room was small, with a single chair in the center. On the wall, a message was scrawled in red ink: "The truth is hidden in plain sight."

Emily's eyes locked onto the message. What did it mean?

Ben's voice was barely above a whisper. "I think we're getting close."

Suddenly, Emily heard footsteps echoing through the warehouse. Heavy, deliberate footsteps.

Ben's eyes locked onto hers. "We're not alone."
