Chapter 26: The Deadly Warning
Emily's heart was racing as she showed the message to her father and the others. They had been so careful, but somehow the Wrights had found out about their plan.
"This is a warning," her father said, his face grim. "They're telling us to back off."
"But we can't," Emily said, her voice firm. "We have to see this through."
Sarah nodded in agreement. "We've come too far to turn back now."
Jake's eyes narrowed. "But we need to be careful. If the Wrights are warning us, it means they're getting desperate."
Tom's face was set in a determined expression. "We'll be careful, but we won't back down. We'll find a way to take them down."
As they continued to discuss their plan, Emily couldn't shake off the feeling of unease. The Wrights were ruthless, and they would stop at nothing to maintain their power.
Just as they were about to finalize their plan, Emily's phone rang. It was an unknown number, and Emily's heart skipped a beat as she hesitated to answer it.
"Let it go to voicemail," her father said, his eyes locked on hers.
But Emily's curiosity got the better of her. She answered the call, her heart racing with anticipation.
"Hello?" Emily said, her voice cautious.
There was a pause on the other end of the line, and for a moment, Emily thought the caller had hung up.
But then, a low, menacing voice spoke. "Emily, you're playing with fire. Back off now, or you'll suffer the consequences."
Emily's eyes widened in fear as she recognized the voice. It was Victor Wright.
"Victor, you're not going to intimidate me," Emily said, trying to keep her voice steady.
Victor's laughter sent chills down Emily's spine. "We'll see about that," he said, before hanging up the phone.
Emily's heart was racing as she turned to the others. "It was Victor Wright," she said, her voice shaking. "He's threatening us."
Her father's face was grim. "We need to get out of here, now."
As they quickly gathered their things and left the house, Emily couldn't shake off the feeling of unease. The Wrights were closing in, and they would stop at nothing to maintain their power.
