Chapter 32: The Mysterious Message
As they sat in the small room, Emily's mind began to wander. She thought about her mother, and the mysterious circumstances surrounding her death. She thought about the Wrights, and their evil plans to take control of the town.
And she thought about Alex, Ben's brother, who was still out there, fighting against the Wrights.
Just as Emily was starting to drift off to sleep, Mrs. Jenkins knocked on the door. "I have some food for you," she said, as she entered the room with a tray.
Emily's stomach growled as she saw the food. She was hungry, and she quickly dug in.
As they ate, Ben's phone suddenly beeped. He looked at the screen, and his eyes widened in surprise.
"What is it?" Emily asked, as Ben quickly got up and left the room.
"I don't know," Ben said, as he returned with a piece of paper in his hand. "I just got a mysterious message. It says: 'Meet me at the old oak tree at midnight. Come alone.'"
Emily's eyes widened in surprise. "Who sent it?" she asked.
Ben shook his head. "I don't know. The number is blocked."
Emily's mind was racing with questions. Who could have sent the message? And what did they want?
As they discussed the message, Emily couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off. The message seemed too convenient, too deliberate.
And then, just as they were about to decide what to do, Emily heard a faint noise coming from outside. It sounded like footsteps, light and cautious.
Ben's eyes locked onto Emily's face. "Do you hear that?" he whispered.
Emily nodded, her heart racing with fear. "What is it?" she whispered back.
Ben's face was grim. "I don't know, but we need to be careful."
As they waited in silence, Emily's mind was racing with questions. Who was outside? And what did they want?
And then, just as they were about to find out, the door creaked open, and a figure slipped inside.
It was Alex, Ben's brother.
"Alex, what are you doing here?" Ben asked, as Alex quickly closed the door behind him.
Alex's face was grim. "I've come to warn you," he said. "The Wrights are closing in. We need to get out of here, now."
