Chapter 183: Waiting for Tiger

"To the church, to wait for my master."

"This time, the empire will definitely send enough troops. It's very dangerous, Captain. Even if you find Old Man Tiger, just the two of you will have a hard time breaking through the encirclement."

'Something about this doesn't sound right...', When Leon turned his head, Rebecca had already slung two heavy-firepower long guns onto her back.

'Hiss—'

'Do all gunners have a four-dimensional pocket?'

'She just pulls out guns like that.'

"You... really want to go with me?", His former teammate had left the Dragon Slayer Corps and could at least live a peaceful life now. He didn't want to drag Rebecca into danger again.

"Of course," Rebecca loaded her ammo belt, her loli face showing a determined smile, "Three years ago, I abandoned you and fled back to the empire in disgrace. But three years later, I won't leave you behind again, Captain."

.

.

.

Late at night, on the rooftop across from the church, Leon and Rebecca observed the situation.

The area around the church was tightly surrounded by security officers and patrol squads. With this setup, even a mosquito wouldn't be able to suck a drop of the 'metallurgy' priest's blood.

"Damn, they're not even hiding it anymore?", Rebecca was surprised.

"I told you, this isn't a trap, it's a showdown. These guys must have figured out my master's temperament, so they dare to do this," Leon said, "But with just this many people, they shouldn't be able to trap my master, right?"

"You have that much confidence in Old Man Tiger? To be honest, I always thought he was just a regular old man. But this past year, he's completely changed my perception of old people," Rebecca said.

Actually, Leon wasn't entirely sure about his master's strength either.

But his master was someone even Rossweise, that stubborn dragon, held in high regard, he couldn't possibly be weak.

"Let's wait and see," Leon said.

"They've been guarding so heavily for about a week now. I wonder if we'll see Old Man Tiger tonight."

The two continued to wait.

At midnight, Rebecca was already dozing off with her weapon in her arms.

But in the next moment, a thunderous explosion jolted her awake.

"Ah! Bomb! There's a bomb!"

Leon quickly pressed her head down, "Shh—he's here, he's here!"

Rebecca crouched down and followed Leon's gaze toward the church.

A massive cross on the church rooftop was instantly destroyed by a bolt of lightning, sending thick clouds of dust billowing.

And from within the dust, a figure wrapped in electric arcs shot out at high speed.

His right hand gripped a long katana, its blade glinting coldly, with traces of fresh blood on it.

"N-no! The priest has been murdered! Catch him! Quick, catch him!", The patrol squads and security officers sprang into action, surrounding the figure.

"Tiger Lawrence! You damn fugitive, murderer! Surrender now!", one of the security officers shouted.

Tiger held his katana, his cold gaze sweeping over the security officer as he said indifferently, "There are still six children locked in the priest's basement."

"W-what?"

Tiger let out a disdainful snort, "A bunch of useless fools."

He said no more, raising his katana in a defensive stance. After a brief assessment, he charged toward one side of the encirclement, intending to break through by force.

The security officers, having witnessed Tiger's abilities before, didn't dare face him head-on, "Q-quick! Release the creatures!"

At the command, several massive cages were slowly wheeled out from a dark alley.

Inside them were enormous, ferocious beasts.

But unlike normal beasts, these ones all wore specially designed collars.

"Domesticated beasts... The empire actually managed to tame monsters," Rebecca was shocked, "Old Man Tiger's in trouble, Captain. Should we, Hey, why are you already heading down?"

———

Outside the church, four A-rank beasts encircled Tiger.

They growled lowly, their blood-red eyes filled with primal killing intent.

Tiger gripped his katana with both hands, facing off against the creatures.

The next moment, one of the beasts lunged at him.

Tiger seized the opportunity, pushing off the ground with his right foot, shooting forward like a bullet.

In the instant they crossed paths, the katana's edge tore through the beast's flesh, making it wail in agony.

But before Tiger could recover, the other three beasts attacked at once.

This time, he chose to dodge rather than confront them head-on.

Even for him, dealing with three beasts simultaneously was too much.

As he put some distance between them, he glanced back. A dense mass of patrol squads and security officers filled the street, all armed with muskets, closing in on him.

"Heh, Tiger Lawrence, no matter how skilled you are, tonight will be your downfall."

ROAR!!

Monsters in front, pursuers behind—

No way up, no way down.

Tiger gripped his katana tightly, "This is troublesome..."

But at this critical moment, from the other end of the street, a sudden burst of blue light flared up.

Electric arcs surged like a flood, scattering the crowd and forcefully carving a path through.

Tiger looked at the dazzling lightning, startled at first, then rested his katana on his shoulder and smiled in relief, "Kid, long time no see."

———

The master and disciple stood back to back, Tiger raised his blade in front of him, "I originally thought that our reunion after three years would be very touching and warm, but who would have thought there would be so many spectators?"

"Master, with a great enemy before us, please don't make jokes," Leon's tone was serious.

Hearing his disciple's words, Tiger was stunned, "What, kid, you haven't neglected your training over these three years, have you? These few dangerous beasts, though they might be a bit troublesome for me, for you, wouldn't they be as easy as drinking cold water?"

Leon swallowed and opened his palm, the remaining sparks of electricity flickered twice in his palm before extinguishing.

Awkward.

He had returned too hastily and hadn't had time to store much magic power.

That last wave-clearing skill had already drained Leon's mana bar.

"A lot has happened in these three years, and the situation is quite complicated. Let's talk about it after we fight our way out, Master."

"Isn't it just having two daughters? How complicated can it be?", Tiger said lightly.

Leon: ?

"M-Master... how do you even know about this?"

"Your wife told me," After a pause, Tiger asked again, "That silver dragon is your wife, right? Or did you two have kids before marriage?"

"In theory... she is indeed my wife, and we didn't just have two daughters..."

Tiger: ?

"Good kid, I think I understand why you're hesitant now. So you spent these three years doing no proper work at all and just helped the Silver Dragon Clan increase their population?"

"I already said, let's talk about this after we fight our way out, Master!"

"Hmph, come on then, don't fall behind an old man's speed."

Leon nodded.

The two spread out their battle stances, and the scene quickly fell into chaos.

Even though Leon had no magic left, just relying on pure martial skills and physical strength, he was still able to suppress the three dangerous beasts, making them retreat repeatedly.

Tiger also realized that this kid's strength was far beyond what it was three years ago.

'Looks like he didn't just spend time enjoying a warm home with his wife and kids at the Silver Dragon Clan, he at least kept up with his training.'

The master and disciple coordinated seamlessly, maneuvering while retreating to the side of the street.

But after all, two fists couldn't fight against four hands. The enemy had overwhelming numbers and was continuously releasing all sorts of violent A-rank dangerous beasts.

"Do these guys not consider the consequences at all? If these dangerous beasts suddenly lose control in the streets of the Empire, many innocent people will be hurt," Leon said.

"The Empire is no longer what it used to be, kid," Tiger left those words behind, then immediately raised his long blade high, blue light suddenly gathering onto the blade.

Zing—

Tiger slashed downward with his blade, a crescent-shaped lightning arc shot forward, clearing the street ahead, blasting open a gap.

"Go!"

The master and disciple rushed toward the gap in the encirclement.

Behind them, hundreds of security officers and over a dozen dangerous beasts continued chasing relentlessly.

"Don't tell me you came here without any preparation and just rushed in to help me," Tiger said while running.

"Of course, I made preparations."

"What kind of preparation?"

As soon as those words fell, the sound of urgent hoofbeats echoed from ahead.

The master and disciple looked up, seeing a horse-drawn carriage speeding toward them.

On top of the carriage, a petite girl carrying two heavy firearms had a panicked expression. She clutched the reins tightly, shouting, "This horse isn't listening to me at all!!!"

When the carriage was less than ten meters away from them, Rebecca's small body leaned back, using all her strength to pull the reins.

With a crisp neigh, the tall horse raised its two front legs and stopped in place.

Rebecca let out a sigh of relief, "Driving a carriage is way harder than shooting a gun."

Leon and Tiger exchanged glances before simultaneously jumping into the carriage.

Leon took the reins from Rebecca's hands, "I'll drive the carriage, you go to the back and help Master hold off the dangerous beasts chasing us."

"Yes, Captain!"

Rebecca gave a knowing smile, finally, it was her specialty's turn!

She moved to the back of the carriage and saw Tiger, "Long time no see, Old Man Tiger."

"Let's catch up later. For now, hold them off and buy me some time. I'll give them a big one."

"OK!"

Rebecca drew both her guns, disengaged the safety, stepped onto the rear edge of the carriage, and her cyan eyes gleamed with long-lost excitement.

"It's been a long time since I last killed you monsters. Don't disappoint me," As soon as she finished speaking, she pulled the trigger.

In an instant, gunfire erupted.

The two heavy-fire long guns in Rebecca's hands unleashed a storm of bullets, and the muzzle flashes illuminated her face.

A face that should have been described as "cute" was now filled with an excited grin.

She laughed, as the cries and howls of the dangerous beasts filled her ears.
