Chapter 8:Secrets and Stories

Lira didn't end up going with Jace after class. Instead, she found herself walking beside Zayn, the weight of his presence oddly comforting.

"That was weird, right?" she asked, glancing up at him.

Zayn shoved his hands in his pockets. "What was?"

"Jace. The way he—" She hesitated. "I don't know. I just feel like he's been acting different lately."

Zayn exhaled. "Yeah, well. People change."

Lira frowned. "Do they?"

Zayn stopped walking. When she turned to look at him, his expression was unreadable. "Yeah," he said quietly. "They do."

There was something about the way he said it—like he wasn't just talking about Jace, but about himself, too.

Lira hesitated before asking, "Zayn… why did you transfer here?"

For a moment, he didn't answer. Then, with a small, humorless chuckle, he said, "I was hoping you'd ask me that sooner."

Lira's heart pounded. "So? Are you gonna tell me?"

Zayn looked at her for a long time before he finally spoke. "I had a friend," he said slowly, as if choosing his words carefully. "Someone really close to me. We grew up together, did everything together. But then… something happened. And suddenly, everything changed."

Lira swallowed. "What happened?"

Zayn's gaze darkened. "He disappeared."

Lira's breath caught in her throat. "Disappeared? Like…?"

"Like he was just gone one day. No warning. No explanation."

Lira felt a chill run down her spine. "And you think… Room F has something to do with it?"

Zayn let out a small, dry laugh. "Maybe. Maybe not. But that's why I'm here, Lira. I need to find out the truth."

Lira stared at him, her heart pounding. There was so much she didn't know—so many things about Zayn that were still wrapped in mystery.

But one thing was clear: whatever this was, whatever secrets he was hiding… she was getting pulled deeper and deeper into it.

And she wasn't sure if she wanted to stop.

To be continued…
