The first shot shattered the neon glow.
Marlow barely had time to react before I yanked his own gun from him and fired twice—one in his shoulder, the other grazing his side. He screamed, slumping into the booth as blood spilled onto the velvet cushions.
The club exploded into chaos.
People screamed, scrambling for the exits. But Kross's men weren't moving for them—they were moving for us.
I hit the floor as bullets tore through the air. Glass shattered. Tables flipped. A bouncer tried to intervene but got gunned down before he even knew what was happening.
Ghost was already moving, gun in hand. He took down two of them before they even realized where he was.
"We need an exit," Kai's voice crackled through the comms.
I ducked behind the bar as a wave of bullets ripped through the bottles above me. The stench of alcohol filled the air.
Ghost slid in next to me. "Back door's blocked. Any ideas?"
I peeked over the counter. The hit squad was advancing fast, closing in.
"We make one."
I grabbed a half-empty bottle, stuffed a bar napkin inside, and lit it with the bartender's forgotten lighter.
Ghost grinned. "You're insane."
I tossed the Molotov.
The explosion rocked the club. Fire roared to life, swallowing the bar in a wall of heat. The hitmen hesitated for half a second.
That was all we needed.
We bolted.
A City That Never Sleeps
We hit the alley at a dead sprint. The sirens were already closing in—cops, or worse.
Ghost yanked open the door to an abandoned stairwell. We took the stairs two at a time, our breathing heavy, adrenaline pushing us forward.
Kai's voice was sharp in my ear. "You two just started a war."
"No," I muttered, stepping out onto the rooftop. The skyline stretched around us, the city alive with lights, completely unaware of the bodies we left behind.
"The war started when Kross made his move. We're just making sure he knows it."
Ghost exhaled, tucking his gun away. "What now?"
I looked over the edge of the building. Below, black SUVs were already rolling in. Too late.
"We hit them first."
Ghost nodded. "Then let's make it count."
The hunt wasn't over.
It was just beginning.
