Chapter 26: A Dangerous Meeting

Olivia stood outside the Grand Hotel, the city lights reflecting off the towering glass windows.

She knew this was risky.

Meeting Madeline Cross—the woman at the center of Adrian's biggest scandal—without telling him was probably a mistake.

But she needed answers.

Squaring her shoulders, she stepped inside.

The lobby was elegant, filled with the soft hum of conversation and the clinking of expensive glasses. A hostess directed her to the lounge, where a woman sat alone at a corner table, swirling a glass of red wine.

Madeline Cross.

She looked effortlessly composed, her dark hair sleek, her crimson dress a perfect contrast to her porcelain skin.

When Olivia approached, Madeline smiled. "Right on time."

Olivia slid into the seat across from her, keeping her expression neutral. "You said you had answers."

Madeline leaned back, studying her. "You're bold. I like that."

"I didn't come for compliments."

Madeline chuckled. "No wonder Adrian is so drawn to you."

Olivia ignored the flutter in her chest and focused. "Tell me about the past. What really happened between you and Adrian?"

Madeline tapped her nails against the table, as if considering how much to reveal. Then, with a sigh, she set her glass down.

"Adrian and I were partners," she began. "Not just romantically, but in business. I helped him build his brand when he was just another talented musician trying to make it big."

Olivia frowned. "Then what changed?"

Madeline's lips curved into something between amusement and regret. "Success."

Olivia's heart pounded. "You betrayed him, didn't you?"

Madeline arched a brow. "That's the story he tells, isn't it?"

Olivia hesitated.

Because the way Madeline said it made her question everything.

Madeline leaned forward. "Let me ask you something, Olivia. Has Adrian ever told you the full story? Or just the version that makes him look like the victim?"

Olivia swallowed hard.

Because she realized something chilling.

She had never asked Adrian directly about his past.

She had only believed what the media had speculated—what Adrian had let her believe.

Madeline smirked, as if reading her thoughts. "Careful, darling. Adrian Hayes is very good at playing the wounded hero. But everyone has skeletons in their closet."

Olivia clenched her fists. "Why are you telling me this?"

Madeline's expression darkened. "Because I see history repeating itself. You're falling into the same trap I did."

A shiver ran down Olivia's spine.

She wanted to deny it.

But deep down, she wasn't sure she could.

And that terrified her.
