Silence stretched between them, thick with unspoken words.
Olivia could feel Adrian watching her, waiting.
Trust is a choice.
And right now, she didn't know if she could make it.
Finally, she exhaled. "I need time."
Adrian's expression didn't change, but she saw something shift in his eyes—acceptance, maybe even resignation.
"Time," he repeated. "For what?"
"To process everything," she admitted. "To figure out what I believe."
His jaw tightened, but he nodded. "Fair enough."
She expected him to argue, to demand more from her, but instead, he stepped back, putting space between them.
And for some reason, that hurt more than if he had fought her.
"I won't force you to trust me," he said quietly. "But I need to know—are you walking away?"
Her breath hitched.
Because she didn't know the answer.
She wanted to believe him. Wanted to stay.
But she also knew that if she did, she had to be all in.
No more doubts. No more hesitations.
And she wasn't sure she was ready for that.
"I just… I need time," she repeated, her voice barely above a whisper.
Adrian studied her for a long moment, then nodded once. "Then take it."
He turned away, walking toward the window, his back to her.
Dismissed.
The message was clear.
Her throat tightened, but she forced herself to leave, each step feeling heavier than the last.
And as she stepped into the elevator, the doors sliding shut between them, she couldn't shake the feeling that she had just made the biggest mistake of her life.
