Chapter 6: The Flesh of a Monster

Darius's heart skipped a beat.

There, standing in the doorway, was Evelyn. His daughter—her face the same, but her eyes… no. The eyes were different. Hollow. Inhuman. There was no trace of the little girl he had once held in his arms, the girl who had laughed and loved with a warmth that could have melted the coldest hearts. The woman before him was something else. Something twisted.

The moment Evelyn spoke, her voice was cold, detached. "You should have stayed away, Father."

Her words sent a chill crawling up Darius's spine. He barely recognized the tone. It wasn't her—at least, not the way he remembered her. His chest tightened, his breath catching in his throat. The pain of seeing his daughter like this, after everything, was almost too much to bear.

"Evelyn…" Darius whispered, stepping toward her, his hands trembling. "What have they done to you? What's happened to you?"

She didn't respond right away. Instead, she tilted her head slightly, as if contemplating his words with an eerie calmness. Then, her lips twisted into a smile that didn't belong on her face. It was too wide, too unnatural. "You think I don't remember you?" she asked, her voice a distorted echo of the child he once knew. "I remember everything. You left me."

Darius took another step forward, his breath quickening. "I never left you, Evelyn. I swear to you, I never—"

The sound of metal scraping against concrete cut him off.

Her arms, once delicate and soft, now bore the unmistakable marks of the organization's cruel experiments. Her skin had been stretched and restructured, dark veins pulsing beneath the surface, the texture warped, as though something unnatural had been forced into her. The sharp outline of mechanical implants now protruded from her back, metal and bone fused in a grotesque display of technology. Her fingers twitched unnaturally, like the movements of a marionette pulled by invisible strings.

And then, she moved.

It was fast—too fast. Darius barely had time to react as Evelyn lunged at him with terrifying precision, her eyes gleaming with a malicious, alien intelligence. Her speed was inhuman, and the way her limbs twisted as she moved made her seem more like a machine than a human being.

He barely dodged in time as she struck, her hand—if it could still be called a hand—landing just inches from his face. The nails had been replaced by long, razor-sharp claws that gleamed in the dim light. They looked more like the talons of a predator than a child's fingers.

Isla shouted from behind him, but Darius was too focused on Evelyn, the horror of the moment overwhelming everything else. His daughter had been transformed into a monster—her body had been mutilated beyond recognition, turned into a weapon of cold, merciless efficiency.

The voice of the little girl he had once known was gone. In its place was the distorted, mechanical voice of someone who had been molded into something unrecognizable.

"I was created for this," Evelyn hissed, her voice no longer her own. "I'm not the little girl you lost. I am something greater now."

Darius's heart sank, his chest tightening as he took a step back. "No… this isn't you, Evelyn. I know you're still in there."

But she only laughed, the sound hollow and chilling. "You think I still care about you? About anything?" She paused, her eyes scanning him with a cold detachment. "You made me this way, Father. You and your precious research. You built the foundation for this."

Darius's mind reeled as his own guilt crashed into him. It was true—his work had led to this. The genetic experiments, the manipulation of DNA—it had all been part of something far darker than he had ever imagined.

He reached for her, his voice desperate. "Evelyn, please! We can get you out of here. We'll fix this. You're my daughter. I love you."

But Evelyn's smile twisted further, her lips pulling back in a snarl. She looked at him like a broken toy—something once cherished but now discarded and beyond repair.

"No, Father," she said coldly, her eyes narrowing. "You were just a tool to them. And now, you're just like me. Nothing but a weapon."

Before Darius could respond, a piercing shriek filled the room. The sound was inhuman, a mixture of mechanical whirs and guttural growls. The walls of the facility trembled, as if the very structure itself was responding to the presence of the monster in front of him.

From the shadows, figures emerged. Other subjects—children who had been experimented on and turned into grotesque, altered versions of their former selves. They were all twisted, their faces contorted in permanent expressions of anguish and rage, their bodies scarred and mutated by the horrific experiments. Some had limbs replaced with cold, metallic appendages, while others had been grafted with strange mechanical organs and devices that hummed and pulsed with unnatural life.

The organization hadn't just created soldiers—they had created abominations.

Darius stepped back, his body instinctively pulling away from the monstrosities around him. His mind raced, but there was no escaping the reality in front of him. The organization had not only destroyed his family—they had turned them into living nightmares.

And Evelyn... she was at the heart of it. She was no longer his daughter. She had become their creation—a weapon, a tool, a monster.

Darius's heart was torn in two. He had failed her. The desperation in his chest threatened to overwhelm him, but he couldn't allow it to consume him. He had to fight, for Evelyn, for Isla, for everything they had lost.

Isla stepped forward, her weapon drawn. Her eyes were full of sorrow, but there was no hesitation. "We need to get out of here, Darius. Now."

But Darius couldn't move. His eyes locked on Evelyn, the horror of the situation freezing him in place.

"Evelyn," he whispered. "Please. Come back to me."

Her eyes flickered—just for a moment, a faint flicker of recognition. But it was gone as quickly as it appeared, replaced once again by cold, calculated malice.

"I'm not coming back, Father," she said, her voice a mechanical growl. "I was born to destroy you."

Before Darius could react, she lunged again, and the room erupted into chaos.
