The night felt heavier than usual, pressing down on them with a suffocating weight. The storm was coming, and Luca knew there was no escaping it.
Evelyn sat up slowly, wincing as pain flared through her side. Luca was at her side in an instant, his hands steadying her before she could collapse.
"You should be resting," he murmured, his voice low, protective.
She met his gaze, her fingers brushing over his wrist. "And you should be honest with me."
Luca stiffened.
Evelyn's eyes burned into his. "What are you planning, Luca?"
Dante, still leaning by the window, snorted. "Oh, he's planning something reckless. That's a given."
Luca shot him a glare before turning back to Evelyn. He exhaled slowly, his fingers tightening around hers. He couldn't lie to her. Not anymore.
"I'm going after them," he admitted. "Before they can come for us again."
Evelyn's grip on his hand tightened. "Luca, no. We don't even know how many of them there are. We don't know who they're working for. You'll be walking into a death trap."
"Then I'll set it on fire from the inside."
Her breath hitched. "Luca—"
He cupped her face, his thumb brushing against her cheek, the warmth of his touch grounding her. "I won't let them take you from me."
Silence stretched between them, thick with unspoken emotions.
Then Evelyn sighed, pressing her forehead against his. "If you're going, I'm going too."
Luca's eyes flashed. "No."
"Yes."
"Evelyn—"
"I'm not sitting on the sidelines while you risk your life for me." Her voice was firm, unwavering. "We do this together. Or not at all."
Dante let out a low whistle. "Damn. I really like her."
Luca ignored him, his gaze locked on Evelyn. She was stubborn. Fierce. The strongest person he knew.
And he loved her for it.
His thumb brushed over her lips before he sighed. "Fine. But you follow my lead."
She smirked. "I don't follow. I walk beside you."
Luca huffed a laugh, shaking his head. God help him.
Dante stretched, cracking his neck. "Great. Now that we're all in agreement, how about we actually come up with a plan before we go charging into a bloodbath?"
Evelyn smiled. "For once, I actually agree with Dante."
Luca exhaled. "Alright. Let's burn them to the ground."
