A Life Worth Fighting For

Evelyn pressed her hands harder against Luca's wound, her fingers slick with his blood. His breathing was shallow, his skin pale beneath the moonlight. The sirens were getting closer, but every second felt like an eternity.

"Stay with me, Luca," she pleaded, her voice raw.

Luca's lips quirked into a smirk, even in pain. "Bossy as ever," he muttered, his voice weaker than she wanted to admit.

"You don't get to die, not after everything," she snapped, blinking back tears. "You promised."

His fingers brushed hers, a ghost of a touch. "I remember."

The sound of boats and flashing lights surrounded them. The coast guard was here. Officers stormed the docks, weapons drawn. Evelyn barely noticed.

Strong hands pulled her back as medics swarmed Luca.

"Ma'am, we need space!"

"No—wait!" She fought against them, but someone held her back.

A familiar voice.

"Let them help him, Evelyn."

She turned sharply. Adrian.

Dressed in black, his usual cold expression softened as he looked at Luca, then back at her.

"You set this up," she realized, her voice shaking.

Adrian sighed. "I told you, I always have a plan."

She didn't know whether to thank him or punch him.

Luca groaned on the stretcher, and her attention snapped back. His eyes fluttered open briefly, searching.

For her.

Evelyn yanked free and ran to his side, grabbing his hand before they could load him onto the ambulance boat.

"I'm right here," she whispered.

His fingers curled around hers weakly. "Evelyn..."

"Save your strength."

His lips parted as if to say more, but his eyes drifted shut. The medics worked frantically, and before she knew it, they were wheeling him away.

She stood frozen. The world blurred around her.

Adrian spoke again, quieter this time.

"You love him."

Evelyn didn't look away. Did she?

She thought of Luca's smirk. His touch. The way he made her feel alive, even in the chaos.

Yes.

She turned to Adrian, eyes fierce.

"And I'll fight for him."
