The World Reacts

The interview aired that same night. Within minutes, social media exploded with reactions.

"Luca Romano is either the world's greatest hero or its most dangerous wildcard."

"He speaks well, but can he be trusted?"

"A man who can control fire? We need answers, not just words."

Luca sat in Rayna's apartment, his hands gripping the arms of the chair as he scrolled through the countless comments. Some supported him. Others feared him. A few outright called for his arrest—or worse.

Julian paced the room. "This was expected. No matter what you said, there was always going to be pushback."

"I know," Luca muttered, rubbing his face. "I just hoped…"

Rayna sat beside him, her hand resting on his. "You hoped they'd understand. But change takes time, Luca."

He sighed. "Do I even have time?"

A knock at the door cut through the conversation. Rayna tensed, exchanging a look with Julian before standing. "Stay back," she whispered to Luca before opening the door just a crack.

A voice, sharp and urgent, came from the other side. "I need to speak to Luca. Now."

Luca recognized it instantly.

Detective Vaughn.

Rayna hesitated before glancing at Luca. He stood, nodding. "Let him in."

Vaughn stepped inside, his expression unreadable. He scanned the room before locking eyes with Luca. "You really did it."

Luca exhaled. "I told you I wasn't going to run anymore."

Vaughn sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose. "Do you have any idea what kind of firestorm you just unleashed?"

"I figured you'd be one of the first to kick down my door."

"I should," Vaughn admitted. "But instead, I'm here to warn you."

Luca narrowed his eyes. "Warn me about what?"

Vaughn pulled a folded piece of paper from his pocket and tossed it onto the table. Luca unfolded it, his stomach twisting at the bold, typed-out words.

Kill Order: Luca Romano.

Julian stiffened. "What the hell?"

Vaughn crossed his arms. "The government isn't going to let this go. You've gone public. You've shown them what you are. And now, you're a problem they want to erase."

Luca clenched his fists. "So they'd rather kill me than try to understand?"

Vaughn's voice was grim. "Luca, you put a target on your back. And from now on, it's only going to get bigger."

Rayna grabbed Luca's hand, her grip tight. "We won't let them take you."

Luca met Vaughn's gaze, determination burning in his chest. "Then let them come."
