CHAPTER EIGHT

The Path of Discipline

The tension in the air slowly faded as the defeated students were escorted away. Some wept, others clenched their fists in

frustration, but the decision was final—only thirty students remained.

Kaidën stood among them, his breathing steady despite the trials he had endured. He glanced around, observing the other survivors. The silver-haired girl with emerald eyes remained, her gaze sharp and unreadable. The messy-haired boy with the wide grin was still there too, looking both exhausted and thrilled at the same time.

Apprentice Thorne took a step forward.

"You have endured both body and mind," he said, his voice carrying authority. "But remember this: passing these tests does not make you a martial artist. It only means you are worthy to begin."

His piercing gaze swept over them. "If any of you think the hard part is over, you can as Well leave now. Because what you shall face will be more grueling compared to this little excercise you had"

No one moved.

Kaidën's fingers twitched. He had felt the intensity of the tests so far. If this was just the beginning, how much harder would the training become?

After a moment of pause, he continued" You all are still on probation not yet worthy to a disciple of this studio" His words shocking some of the student including kaiden while some seems to have known

"You are to be trained by instructors for the next one year" said apprentice Thorne causing another wave mostly from the students who are from humble homes, kaiden included

Apprentice Thorne nodded, satisfied. "Good. Then your true training begins at dawn."

The students were led into the main dojo—a vast wooden hall, its walls lined with intricate calligraphy detailing the principles of martial arts. The scent of polished wood and faint incense filled the air, giving the place an almost sacred feel.

"You will live here, train here, and learn here," said a female instructor, who introduced herself as Apprentice Lian. She was smaller than Apprentice Thorne but had a quiet strength in her posture. "Your days will begin before sunrise. Your nights will end long after sunset. Discipline will shape you, or break you."

She gestured toward a side hall where rows of simple sleeping mats were laid out. "Rest now. Tomorrow, you meet your instructors."

Murmurs passed through the students. Kaidën's curiosity stirred, but fatigue weighed heavily on his limbs.

He found a mat and lowered himself onto it. The exhaustion from the day's trials finally caught up with him, and before he could think any further—

Sleep took him.
