Chapter 24: My Condolences

Because Ethan Yang had been paying so much attention to the road ahead, the flow of his Genuine Qi naturally concentrated in his eyes. Without realizing it, he had unlocked his Eye Enlightenment Point.

Once the Eye Enlightenment Point opened, his vision transformed. Not only could he see the road clearly, but he could also see several kilometers ahead, even in the dark. However, focused as he was on driving, Ethan hadn't noticed the change.

Beside him, Yuyu's sorrow gradually shifted to infatuation. This time, though, it wasn't Ethan's eyes but his intense focus that drew her in. To be honest, Ethan's looks were ordinary — not handsome, but not ugly either. Yet, that serious expression made Yuyu's heart race.

Unable to hold back, she pressed her soft lips against Ethan's cheek.

"Ah! What are you doing?" Ethan jolted awake, glancing at the road signs. In disbelief, he realized they had traveled over 300 kilometers in just over an hour.

Yuyu giggled, unfazed. "Brother Ethan, you looked really handsome just now!"

"Heh… I don't know about that, but this was the fastest and smoothest drive I've ever done. It felt like I became one with the car. Strange." Ethan rubbed his face. "Anyway, we're off the highway."

Outside Purple City Hospital, a middle-aged couple stood anxiously under the dim lights. Yuyu's parents had rushed here from Beijing by helicopter. Two soldiers and a tall, thin man sat nearby on a plastic bench. One soldier, in his thirties, was Battalion Commander Victor. The younger one was Little Zack, Ryan's personal guard. The tall, thin man was Don, Ryan's old classmate who had arrived first due to proximity.

"Mom! How is my brother?" Yuyu threw herself into her mother's arms, trembling.

Her mother, eyes red from crying, wiped her tears. "He's still in surgery. We only got here not long ago. I called you… just in case he couldn't hold on."

Ethan, standing quietly to the side, understood the implication. She wanted Yuyu to see her brother one last time.

Yuyu's father, Damian, frowned at his watch. "Yuyu, how did you get here so quickly? Did you call your Uncle Daniel and hitch a ride on a military helicopter?"

Only then did Yuyu remember Ethan. She grabbed his arm, excited. "Dad, Mom! Brother is saved. This is Brother Ethan! Not only is he an amazing driver, but his medical skills are incredible. If he helps, Brother will be fine!"

Damian's face darkened. "You drove here? Three hundred kilometers in just over an hour?! Do you have a death wish?" He scolded her harshly.

As for Ethan's supposed "medical skills," Damian dismissed the claim entirely. The hospital was already filled with the best doctors from Purple City and Beijing. What could a young farmer know about medicine?

"Dad! Brother Ethan is amazing. Remember Grandpa Night's 80th birthday? The doctors said Grandpa Night wouldn't last five minutes. But Brother Ethan just pricked him a few times with his needles, and Grandpa Night recovered on the spot! He was alive and kicking. When I left, he was watering the flowers in his courtyard!"

Damian and his wife exchanged stunned glances.

Just then, the surgery's indicator light flicked off, and the operating room doors swung open. A group of exhausted doctors emerged, heads down. One doctor stepped forward, removing his mask.

"Doctor Quentin! How is Little Ryan ?" Damian asked anxiously.

Doctor Quentin sighed heavily. "I'm sorry, Chief. Please accept our condolences. We did everything we could."

Yuyu's mother collapsed to the floor, wailing. Damian clenched his fists, his vision blurring. Battalion Commander Victor turned away, biting his lip. Zack squatted down, clutching his head and sobbing, while Don pounded the wall in grief.

"No! Brother, don't go! You promised to protect me forever! Please… don't leave me…" Yuyu dashed into the operating room, throwing herself over Ryan's still-warm body.

Suddenly, she snapped upright and sprinted back out. Grabbing Ethan's arm, she pleaded, "Brother Ethan, I know you're a miracle doctor! Please save my brother. I'm begging you…"

Seeing her despair, Ethan's heart clenched. He gritted his teeth, eyes burning with determination. "Alright. I'll try. But your brother's condition… it might be beyond my limits."

"That's fine! As long as you try, that's all that matters!" Yuyu cried. In her heart, she believed that if anyone could bring her brother back, it was Ethan.

With that, Ethan stepped into the room.
