Chapter Fifteen: A Wonderful Day with Zhao Gu

An hour later, the classroom gradually filled with students, most of them preparing for their postgraduate exams.

Suddenly, the distant sound of hurried footsteps echoed through the silent room. The disturbance prompted many to look up in annoyance, including Lan Mengmeng, who had been deeply engrossed in her exercises.

Chen Fan took the opportunity to assert his self-righteousness. "We're university students now. Some people should really learn to behave. Good thing I don't associate with low-quality friends like that."

"Mhmm," Lan Mengmeng responded absentmindedly.

Just as he finished speaking, a loud voice rang out from the doorway.

"Chen Fan! I brought you breakfast!"

"Is that your neighbor?" Lan Mengmeng asked.

Before Chen Fan could answer, a head peeked through the doorway. The girl, completely oblivious to the irritated gazes around her, strode in confidently.

She placed a bag on his desk and grinned. "I brought you breakfast! How about that? I saved this for you last night—it's absolutely delicious. Way better than fries and soda! Hurry up and try it!"

"Uh… Zhao, let's talk later. You should head back first."

"No way! This has to be eaten while it's hot! I even had the kitchen reheat it for you this morning. Just take a bite!"

"Excuse me, could you not disturb others while they're studying? It's very inconsiderate," a male student from a few rows back finally spoke up.

Hearing this, Zhao Gu immediately flared up. "Oh? Someone like you dares to challenge me? Hah! Today, this immortal will make sure you regret it!"

"Wait, wait, Zhao!"

"Little girl, have you been playing too many video games? Acting crazy in real life now?" The male student sneered.

"Chen Fan, don't stop me! I'll pin him down right now and make him ride a roller coaster a hundred times!"

"Enough!"

Lan Mengmeng suddenly shouted, her voice cutting through the tension. The entire classroom fell silent as everyone turned to look at her in surprise. Realizing her own outburst, she quickly lowered her gaze, mumbled an apology, grabbed her bag, and rushed out of the room.

Chen Fan hesitated, wanting to chase after her, but Zhao Gu was still engaged in her heated argument. Worried things might escalate, he quickly pulled her out of the classroom.

"Hey! I already arranged with the construction site—you can head straight to your shift after finishing your night classes. Why aren't you at work right now?"

"I told you, I brought you breakfast! And it's really good!"

Chen Fan was about to lecture her when he noticed a deep cut on her left hand. His expression darkened.

"What happened to your hand?"

"Oh, this? No big deal. Just a little cut from last night. But don't worry, human weapons can't really hurt me." She waved it off nonchalantly before grinning. "Alright, you stay put. As usual, I'm off to make money. Tonight, you're treating me to fries!"

Zhao Gu turned to leave, but after taking a few steps, she suddenly spun around and added, "Oh, and tell that guy from earlier to wait. Within three days, I'll make sure he experiences the ultimate despair in life."

"Alright, I'm off! Gotta make two hundred bucks today—three servings of fries for me!"

"Don't go," Chen Fan suddenly called out.

Zhao Gu turned back, looking confused. "What? If I don't go, does that mean no fries for me today?"

"No, today you don't have to work. Eat as much as you want—it's on me. And after that, we're going out."

"Really? Hah! Chen Fan, you're finally treating me well! Alright, I'll forgive you for disrespecting me in that tomb the other day."

Using the money you earned to buy you food… Am I really doing the right thing? Chen Fan glanced at the carefree girl beside him, feeling a pang of guilt.

At a fast-food restaurant, he placed several bags of fries on the table and handed her a 1.5-liter bottle of soda.

"Eat up. There's plenty."

"Haha! Chen Fan, you're not so bad after all!" Zhao Gu grinned and immediately started devouring the fries.

"Sorry about earlier. She's straightforward like that—doesn't mean any harm."

Chen Fan glanced at his phone, but the chat screen remained empty. No reply.

Over an hour later, Zhao Gu finally finished all the fries on the table. Surprisingly, she didn't ask for more this time. Instead, she patted her stomach and sighed.

"These things are so good, but so expensive. I worked for three days, and I could barely afford this much. Ugh, whatever. No more wasting time—I need to go make more money so I can eat to my heart's content next time!"

She got up to leave, but Chen Fan quickly grabbed her wrist.

"What's up, Chen Fan?"

"Don't go. Let's go out today—I'll take you to eat something even better."

"Will it be expensive? How long would I have to work to afford it? Construction work isn't tiring, but it's super boring."

"You don't have to pay. I'm treating you—understand? And while we're at it, we're getting you some new clothes. Yours are too old."

For the first time, Chen Fan felt an overwhelming sense of guilt. He had always treated her like a money-making machine, but this time, he genuinely wanted to make it up to her.

"Wow! So much good food! Where do we start?" Zhao Gu's eyes sparkled as they walked into the bustling night market.

"This! What's 'spicy skewers'? Can I eat it?"

"Yes."

"And this? 'Fruit yogurt bowl'?"

"Yes."

"Oh! What about this 'tender beef stew'?"

"Yes. You can eat anything you want."

"Wow, Chen Fan! You're the best! Here, take this axe."

Zhao Gu grinned and, out of nowhere, pulled out an axe, handing it to him.

Startled, Chen Fan jumped back. "Zhao! What are you doing pulling that out in public?! You're going to scare people!"

"Haha! Relax. It's a celestial artifact—ordinary people can't even see it. Just keep it safe, okay? Not that it's much use in the human world."

"Come on, come on! We're wasting time—I have so much more to eat!" Zhao Gu laughed, grabbed Chen Fan's arm, and dragged him further into the market.

Over an hour later, as she popped the last takoyaki ball into her mouth, she eagerly turned to him. "So? What's next?"

Chen Fan, still struggling with his half-finished beef stew, sighed in defeat. At this point, even hearing the word "food" made him queasy.

"Zhao, how about we go shopping instead? I'll buy you some new clothes—something nice."

"No way! Shopping is useless. Eating is what really matters! Why waste time on clothes when you can spend it eating?"

"I can't eat anymore! Food might not matter to you, but my stomach is completely stuffed! Just give me a break—we'll shop for a bit, then you can eat again. Deal?"

"Fine! But after shopping, we go back to eating! No time-wasting!"

"Deal."

Chen Fan took a deep breath and led her into a reasonably priced clothing store.

The saleswoman, full of enthusiasm, greeted them with an exaggerated smile.

"Oh my! Miss, you're absolutely stunning—like a goddess descended to Earth! And you two make such a perfect couple!"

She was a top salesperson, and today, she was putting all her skills on display. She spoke at length, flashing a knowing glance at her colleague in the distance.

"So! For a beauty like you, you must try our store's signature piece! Designed by a famous Lanxi fashion designer—"

"Chen Fan, let's go," Zhao Gu suddenly interrupted.

"Huh? Why?"

"She talks too much. Waste of time. Next store!"
