Blackwood Castle – Midnight Reflections

The castle halls were silent, save for the occasional flicker of torches casting long shadows along the grand corridors. Chris remained standing by his window, his gaze fixed on the vast empire he had built. The lights of the city below twinkled like stars, each one a testament to the power he had wielded. But now, he was no longer the ruler—only the god watching over it all.

A soft knock echoed through his chamber once again. This time, he did not immediately respond.

"Come in," he finally said.

The door creaked open, and Skylar stepped inside. Unlike Christiana, she did not move with the same calculated sharpness. Her presence was softer, but no less powerful.

Chris turned to face her, sensing the weight in her gaze. He had known her too long to miss the storm of thoughts swirling behind her eyes.

"I spoke to Christiana," Skylar said, stepping closer. "She thinks you're abandoning the empire."

Chris sighed, shaking his head slightly. "No. I am giving it the space to stand on its own."

Skylar folded her arms. "And what about me? What do I do now?"

Chris studied her for a moment before answering. "You have always known your role, Skylar. You were never just my wife. You are the Queen Mother of this empire, the silent force behind every decision, every move. That does not change just because I have stepped back."

Skylar exhaled. "It feels… strange. After everything we've built, to suddenly not be in control."

Chris reached out, gently taking her hand. "We are still in control, just not in the way we were before. Ethan will rule, Christiana will enforce, and Classic will one day take his place. Our time is shifting, but our power remains."

Skylar's lips pressed together. "And if they make mistakes?"

Chris's eyes darkened slightly. "Then they will learn. Just as we did. And if the time ever comes when I must step in… they will know exactly why I am still here."

A knowing silence stretched between them.

Skylar squeezed his hand, her gaze softening. "I trust you, Chris. I always have."

Chris smirked slightly. "That makes one of us."

Skylar let out a quiet laugh, shaking her head. "Then I suppose we watch and wait."

Chris nodded. "Yes. We watch, and we wait."

And so, with the empire now resting in the hands of the next generation, the god and queen of Blackwood stood together—silent sentinels of the empire they had forged.
