A Dangerous Proposition

Adrian's hands tightened around the paper as he read it again, his heartbeat slow but heavy. The offer Chris had laid before him was nothing short of madness.

A chance to walk free. A chance to reclaim power.

But under one condition—he would serve.

Chris wasn't offering mercy; he was offering control. A leash disguised as an opportunity.

Adrian let out a slow breath, setting the paper down. His gaze flickered to the locked door, the single lamp casting long shadows against the walls. He wasn't naïve. Chris wouldn't make this easy.

A sharp knock interrupted his thoughts.

The door creaked open, and a figure stepped in—tall, composed, a silent enforcer of Chris's will.

Christiana.

Her cold gaze locked onto him. No pleasantries. No pretense.

"My father is being too generous." Her voice was quiet but laced with venom. "I would've left you in that cell until your name faded from history."

Adrian smirked, leaning back in his chair. "Well, it's a good thing you're not the one in charge, isn't it?"

Her jaw tightened.

"You're a threat. And threats to the Blackwood Empire do not get second chances."

"Then why are you here, Christiana?" Adrian's voice dropped, his smirk widening. "To make sure I don't accept? Or to make sure I don't live long enough to?"

Christiana took a step forward, closing the distance between them.

"If you even think about betraying us, I will end you myself."

Adrian chuckled, shaking his head. "You always were the ruthless one, weren't you?"

Her eyes narrowed. "You don't belong here, Adrian. You're an outsider. My father may be willing to gamble, but I'm not."

Adrian stood, his chains clinking. He looked her directly in the eyes. "Then maybe you should kill me now, before I prove him right."

For a long moment, silence hung between them. A battle of wills.

Then, Christiana turned sharply on her heel.

"The guards will escort you to the tower. You have until sunrise to decide."

She disappeared through the door, leaving Adrian alone once again.

His smirk faded.

This wasn't just about survival anymore.

It was about power.

And he would make sure that no one—not Christiana, not Ethan, not even Chris—would ever look down on him again.
