Chapter Title: The Iron Within the Flame

---

Chris's POV

The night air inside the Imperial Chamber was still. Not even the shadows dared move without his permission.

Chris stood before the towering map of the world—no longer divided by borders or flags. Every nation, every region, every city… marked by a single emblem: the Blackwood crest.

The world no longer belonged to many. It belonged to one.

To him.

A faint knock.

He didn't turn. "Enter."

The door opened with its usual soft hiss of hydraulics. Christiana stepped in—flawless posture, black uniform sharp as ever, eyes unreadable.

"Your Majesty," she said, her tone perfectly neutral.

Chris spoke without turning. "You've been quiet since Ethan's reinstatement."

Christiana stepped closer, but not too close. "Because I'm watching."

He finally turned, facing her. "And what do you see?"

Her eyes flicked toward the map behind him. "A storm building behind clear skies."

Chris studied her for a moment. "Speak freely."

She tilted her head slightly. "Ethan will never be loyal. Not truly. Not after what you did to him. He may bow, but he won't kneel in spirit. I can have his movements tracked tighter. Have him shadowed day and night."

Chris raised a hand, stopping her. "I know what Ethan is."

Christiana's voice lowered. "Then why take the risk?"

Chris walked toward the window overlooking the Citadel. The lights of the empire stretched endlessly into the horizon.

"Because a world this powerful needs pressure," he said. "Peace breeds weakness. Ethan is a necessary tension. A constant reminder to the others—especially Classic—that this throne is not inherited. It's earned, and guarded with fire."

Christiana's jaw tensed. "And if he steps out of line again?"

Chris turned back to her, voice like steel. "Then I let the lion eat the ghost."

She didn't ask who the lion was.

They both knew.

Classic.

Christiana's tone shifted. "The Blackwood Union grows more obedient by the day. Currency conversion is complete in all 193 former nations. Worship centers are operational. The One-Ruler Doctrine is being taught in schools globally. Your godhood is no longer feared…"

She paused.

"It's being believed."

Chris said nothing, but a faint smirk touched the corner of his lips.

"All according to plan," he murmured.

Christiana gave a slow nod. "Then what's next?"

Chris's eyes darkened, voice low.

"Now… we test loyalty."

He turned back to the window.

"And we begin with the boy."
