The Sea at Night

Ji Aier and Ji En sat on the balcony of the seaside villa, looking at the few stars twinkling in the sky. They listened to the sound of the tide, rising and falling. At night, there wasn't much scenery to see in the sea, except for the particularly clear sound of the waves.

Today, Ji En was in a bad mood, so he sat there without saying a word.

Ji Aier, sitting beside him, also didn't feel like talking. They just quietly felt the sea breeze and watched the waves. After a long time passed.

"Do you miss your mom and dad?" Ji En turned his head and asked Ji Aier.

Ji Aier nodded. She often missed them, so every time she woke up from a dream about them, she would cry bitterly.

"I don't even know what it feels like to miss them anymore." Ji En said indifferently, as if his parents were just a noun in his mind and didn't have any real significance.

"Because they haven't left you forever. Their departure is just temporary, and they'll come back to see you after a while. That's why you don't feel it much." Ji Aier said to Ji En. In fact, there was an essential difference between them. She could never see her parents again, so she missed them even more. And Ji En grew up in such a wealthy family, lacking the warmth and family happiness of an ordinary family, so he couldn't really understand the pain of losing his parents.

"I'm almost losing my impression of them." Ji En said, looking at the distant sea.

"They'll be back next month." Ji Aier suddenly thought that Ji En was also very vulnerable, but he always used his unruly appearance to hide his inner vulnerability. Compared with him, she had more freedom because she could freely vent her vulnerability without scruples.

"Compared to them, you're more important to me!" Ji En looked at Ji Aier and said.

"Some things can't be replaced, like family affection!" Ji Aier said. She no longer wanted to have any illusions about Ji En. Sometimes he was very cold, and sometimes he was very sentimental. She could hardly tell which personality was truly in his heart.

"Can't love replace it?" Ji En played with Ji Aier's disheveled long hair and asked her.

"No, because they're not comparable." Ji Aier said indifferently.

"Are you jealous of Ouyang Xue?" Ji En still played with Ji Aier's long hair and asked her.

"No! She's your girlfriend, and I'm your maid. We're not comparable either, so it's impossible for one of us to be jealous of the other." Ji Aier still maintained her calmness. Regarding what happened in the morning, she regarded it as something fleeting. And regarding what happened last night, she regarded it as a beautiful dream, and all dreams have an end.

"I can have countless girlfriends, but there's only one person I truly love." Ji En said to Ji Aier. Was this a confession? But she would rather regard it as the meteor that just fell in the sky. Such an eternity wouldn't happen to her. Even if Ji En really did it, that person he loved wouldn't be her. She was more likely to become one of his numerous girlfriends in the future. And she didn't want that. She chose to "rather die as a broken jade than live as an intact tile."
