"President Ji is here!"
Someone in the crowd whispered. Yiren turned around and saw a striking couple walking in. Yiren recognized the man at a glance. She never expected that he was the important person others had been talking about! And at the moment, he was escorting a gentle and classically beautiful woman on his arm, who seemed to be his wife.
"Brother Minze, Cousin, you've arrived!" Cheng Yuxuan pulled Yiren and stepped forward to greet them. Yiren, who hadn't snapped out of her thoughts yet, lost her balance when he pulled her.
She almost fell to the ground, but luckily, she didn't end up embarrassing herself that badly. Instead, she fell into Ji Minze's arms in a rather ambiguous posture.
"Sorry, I just now..." Hearing the whispers behind her, Yiren quickly steadied herself and stepped away from the man's embrace. She looked up and apologized to Ji Minze. But she was stunned. This was the first time she had looked at him so closely, and she found that his skin was really good, and his deep eyes almost drew her in.
"It doesn't matter," Ji Minze said, helping her up with a faint smile. When she looked up, he recognized her at once. This girl who had said she would call him when she was free and let him treat her to a meal had since disappeared without a word. He didn't expect that when they met again, she would throw herself into his arms as a way of greeting. She always brought him unexpected actions.
"Yuxuan, is she your girlfriend?" Tang Rui looked at Yiren and asked Cheng Yuxuan.
Ji Minze looked at Yiren, who still had a blush on her face and a sullen expression. He didn't expect that she was Cheng Yuxuan's girlfriend.
"Yes," Cheng Yuxuan said, feeling a bit guilty when he thought of Yiren's embarrassed expression just now.
"Yuxuan, you stay with Tang Rui. I'll go and chat with the guests," Ji Minze said. He saw that all the people present today were important figures in business and political circles. After saying this to Cheng Yuxuan, he subtly let go of Tang Rui's hand and walked towards the other side.
"Hello, I'm Yiren," Yiren said to Tang Rui, having regained her composure.
"Hello," Tang Rui replied. Her voice was very pleasant, soft and gentle. "Is my aunt here?" Tang Rui turned to ask Cheng Yuxuan.
"Over there. She made your favorite Napoleon cake today, Cousin," Cheng Yuxuan said, pointing at Su Yuncao, who was arranging the fruits by the buffet table.
Tang Rui walked over.
"I'm so embarrassed this time!" Yiren said angrily. Moreover, Ji Minze knew her. This was really unlucky. "You have to let me beat you up tonight to let off some steam!" Yiren turned to Cheng Yuxuan and said.
"No problem," Cheng Yuxuan comforted her. "Don't be upset. Brother Minze won't mind."
"I don't care if others mind or not. I definitely mind," Yiren said sullenly. "Forget it. Let's go find something to eat. I'm starving," Yiren said, patting her stomach.
They walked hand in hand through the crowd towards the buffet table. People who didn't know the truth would think that they were such a well-matched couple.
"This is really sweet," Cheng Yuxuan said, skewering a piece of honeydew melon and bringing it to Yiren's mouth.
"Yeah, it's sweet," Yiren said, opening her mouth and eating it without thinking. Then she skewered a piece of red cherry from her own plate and offered it to Cheng Yuxuan. "The cherry is sweet too."
They fed each other as if there was no one else around and discussed which one tasted better. Some people were annoyed by it, while some were happy to see it. For example, Su Yuncao stood aside with a big smile. And Ji Minze glanced over here with a probing look, subtly.
"What are you looking at that makes you so happy?" Cheng Zongyi, holding a wine glass, walked up to his beloved wife and asked indulgently.
"Look, how well our son and Yiren match together!"
Cheng Zongyi looked in the direction Su Yuncao pointed. Cheng Yuxuan and Yiren were chatting and laughing.
"They're good friends," Cheng Zongyi said, looking at the two young people.
"What good friends? They're lovers!" Su Yuncao said, dissatisfied.
"Really?" Cheng Zongyi looked at them again. He didn't think they were lovers at all because the way they looked at each other was one of admiration, not love.
Just then, Cheng Yuxuan and Yiren walked over.
"Daddy, Mommy," Cheng Yuxuan leaned towards Su Yuncao and called out. Unexpectedly, the grown-up Cheng Yuxuan still had such a childish side.
"Uncle, Auntie," Yiren also called out and stood beside Cheng Yuxuan.
She didn't see Cheng Zongyi very often. Usually, she was with Su Yuncao. But every time she saw Cheng Zongyi, she was amazed by him. Even though he was now approaching middle age, he still exuded a mature and noble charm, and there was a natural kingly aura about him. So sometimes, fate seemed to have already arranged everything from the start, who would be with whom. That's why Cheng Zongyi didn't marry a stunningly beautiful woman but the always unique Su Yuncao.
"Have a good time, Yiren," Cheng Zongyi said gently to Yiren. He wasn't a stern elder but always wore a faint smile.
"Thank you, Uncle," Yiren said with a sweet smile. She really envied Cheng Yuxuan for having such wonderful parents. Setting aside his prominent background, his family itself was filled with warmth.
"My parents really like you," Cheng Yuxuan whispered in Yiren's ear.
"You're trying to set me up again!" Yiren said warily.
"Come on, let's go dance," Cheng Yuxuan said as the music started. He pulled Yiren onto the dance floor before she even had time to say hello to Cheng Zongyi and his wife.
