CHAPTER 006

CHAPTER 006

Emily's POV

Mila and I returned through the square towards our kitchen, taking an alternative path back.

"No cheating this time!" I instructed Mila from behind her.

"Emm!" Em shouted over her shoulder, "we both know you will win if I do not use my wolf's abilities! So come on!"

I smiled in acknowledgment of her wisdom.

Mila's parents were warriors with high ranks; however, everyone knew her father belonged to the Delta rank; unfortunately, he forfeited it when he decided to switch packs to be with Mila's mom instead of staying true to the Delta ranks.

Mila quickly took control of the situation by grasping the door handle, opening and swinging her door, giving herself only a two-second advantage before entering her apartment building.

Mila had run quickly down the hall before disappearing around a corner. I opened the door, seeing her streak past.

No way I could reach her now.

My footsteps slowed as I ran by my father's office and past Alpha Col's, knowing their meeting may have begun just then. To avoid disrupting it further, I tried to pass them quickly but quietly as soon as possible.

As I passed the third door, an irresistibly delicious aroma of apple crumble hit me square in the nose.

Alpha Alexander must surely be there! Before thinking it through further, I stood before Alpha Alexander's office and made myself comfortable there.

As I heard his and an unknown woman's voices coming from within me, my throat tightened further as they came through.

Jealousy and possessiveness surfaced within me, and an urge to barge in.

I gripped the door handle tightly in my hand and pressed my ear against the door to listen in on their conversation.

"What happened last night?" A woman demanded. "Why haven't you returned yet to help with those mongrels!"

As soon as I heard her screeching voice, every hair on my back raised. Though I hadn't seen her face yet, my instinct told me I should change course immediately.

Alex reported having experienced an emergency.

"What type of emergency?" she demanded sharply before rising from her seat and walking toward where Alex stood with noisy footsteps on a hard, cold floor.

"Unexpected events arose," Alex stated solemnly, and I needed to address them immediately.

"Why did you leave me all alone on the dance floor?" She pouted angrily. "Why couldn't we have brought me along?" she begged.

Alex was on the dance floor. Why haven't I noticed him yet?

"Angelica!" Alex barked. "As soon as Alpha, my priority must always be taking care of the people under my care, so if anything doesn't suit you or goes awry in my pack - and no one's standing between us!"

She looked in disbelief. "Leaving now in this weather? Surely not!" I had better plans than leaving now - why don't we sit close together by the fire instead? I'll even order those lowlife omegas to cook something nice for us to eat!"

As soon as my office became silent, my curiosity overcame me and got the best of me.

I grabbed the door handle and started pushing, only for someone's massive hand to hold me and pull me backward, shutting the door behind them.

My eyes lit up when I recognized him as my biological father.

He appeared angry and disappointed in me.

"What are you doing?" He demanded with eyes of discontented anger.

"I tried to defend," I responded.

"Not what it appears?" my father hissed angrily. "Emily! Didn't you realize you were about to gain entry without permission into Alpha Alexander's office, Emily!"

"Who are his companions?" I asked, changing the subject to determine who had come with him. I needed to identify her.

"That is no business of yours!" the young man exclaimed angrily.

"But Luna deserves better," I argued before my father cut in and teased. He replied sarcastically that Luna should think carefully before taking such risks for her future.

Boss?

His future, Luna? Sir Alexander has faded. I blinked a couple of times as my mind struggled to process what Boss had just told me. I couldn't take in what had just been revealed by Boss Alexander. I stared dumbfounded as his words made sense but had me stunned nonetheless.

Does My Understanding Align With What He Is Saying? --

Does Alexander have any romantic partners?

But I wasn't quite sure. He hadn't any marks on his neck. Did he lie to me?

My eyes darted back towards my father; I had questions I needed answered.

"Who is she?" I demanded as tears filled my eyes.

He first met her at an Alpha training camp. "She's perfect for him," said his uncle. The fact that it snowed last night indicates how his chosen one is reacting positively towards this choice.

My heart sank as tears streamed down my cheeks.

Alexander took my innocence last night and has taken it in as part of his Luna legacy in his office.

My father lifted my chin and knit his eyebrows together in an act of affection and care for me.

"I understand your attraction to young Alpha Alexander has always been strong," the man softly advised her, but now is the time for you to find someone more suitable to yourself and let go of any past attachments.

Had Alexander known, we could have become close.

My tears overflowed, and my father reached for my comforting arms to bring me comfort.

"Calm down, Emily," Alpha Alexander whispered comfortingly. "This won't last; soon enough, you will meet someone perfect - no longer will Alpha Alexander exist in your mind! When that day arrives, you won't need Alpha Alexander anymore!"

That made my tears even louder.

What he stated might have been truer.

My father picked me up with strong arms, carried me back to our car, and drove home.

We didn't live far from the pack house; our cottage bordered forest territory.

My father designed and constructed our cottage shortly before my mother became pregnant with me. It was an exquisite two-story structure nestled amidst four enormous trees, with a lush garden that boasted plenty of blooming flowers.

My father once assured me that the cottage would someday become my property.

Most couples had set up homes to raise their young, while unmated wolves generally still lived together within pack houses.

My dad pulled over, picked me up, and carried me upstairs, where he settled me onto my bed with an envelope blanket over me.

His eyes were gentle yet full of love, yet I couldn't ignore their depth of suffering.

He felt sorry for me, perhaps seeing in me an impotent creature.

My father left quietly, giving me one last glance before closing my room door behind him.

Not long afterward, my mother knocked and peeped inside.

"Emily!" she exclaimed almost hysterically when entering my room, as though trying to console me. "I am truly sorry. Baby girl should've known sooner!"

When the bed suddenly dropped near me, I knew she must have taken her seat there.

As soon as I breathed in her delicate floral scent, my chest tightened painfully with anxiety.

My mother stretched out her hand and delicately stroked my dark-brown locks.

My mother always knew what to say or do to cheer me up when I felt sad or down.

My mother suddenly bent down and gently kissed my head before gently rising from my seat to leave my room.

"Everything will be alright," she assured me before closing the door and heading away.

My mother should have known this would be my last visit before beginning a new phase in my life.
