Chapter 8: The Devil's Bond
Selene's return was like a breath of fresh air, but the weight of her presence in the temple felt like a double-edged sword. She was here, but not fully. Arthur could sense that something had changed within her, a distance that hadn't been there before. Her gaze was softer, more distant, as though she had crossed into another world during her time away.
"You came back," Arthur said, his voice thick with emotion. "Why? After everything?"
Selene's eyes softened, but her expression remained guarded. "I never meant to leave you alone. But there are things you need to understand about this power, Arthur. Things I didn't want to burden you with." She stepped closer, the weight of her words heavy between them. "The power within you is not just your own. It's a bond, a connection to something far greater, something dangerous."
Arthur swallowed hard, the knowledge of the danger gnawing at his gut. "What am I supposed to do with it? I'm not ready for this. I can feel it—this thing inside me, and it's not me anymore."
Selene stepped closer, placing a hand gently on his arm. "That's why I came back. Because you don't have to face this alone. We'll find a way to control it. Together."
Arthur's heart raced as he looked into her eyes, feeling a connection to her that ran deeper than words. The bond between them was undeniable, but he knew it wasn't just love—it was something darker, a force they both had to face.
