Two years of intense training had passed...
I was now eighteen. Those had been the hardest two years of my life.
I woke up drenched in sweat. The air was unusually hot, carrying a strange scent. A low, unsettling sound echoed in my room.
As I sat up, breathing heavily, I turned toward the door. Thick black smoke seeped from underneath it. My heart pounded. I rushed to open it—
Flames.
The house was engulfed in fire. A deafening explosion erupted before my eyes, sending me crashing onto my back. My bed ignited instantly.
I scrambled toward my bag, snatched it, and turned to escape. The fire grew more intense, trapping me. Then, amid the chaos, I saw someone standing in the distance inside the house.
I shielded my eyes and sprinted through the blazing inferno, chasing after the mysterious figure.
As I burst through the front door, another explosion went off behind me, knocking me to the ground.
Lying on the cold earth, my face covered in black soot, I gasped for air. Dazed, I frantically scanned my surroundings, searching for the figure.
I turned back toward the house—
It was collapsing in flames.
One explosion after another erupted within. My vision blurred, my head spun, and then—
Darkness.
---
I woke up in an unfamiliar bed, my mind racing.
"Where is he?! I have to find him!"
A voice interrupted my panic.
"Calm down, Shadow. You're safe now."
It was Joey.
I blinked, realizing I was inside his home. Three figures stood around me—Joey, his wife, and a girl about my age.
I sat up slowly, still in shock. A million thoughts flooded my mind.
Joey handed me a glass of water. "Drink this. What happened?"
I took a sip, my voice barely a whisper. "How did I get here?"
His expression was filled with worry. "You didn't show up for training today. I got concerned and went to check on you… I found your house burning and you unconscious outside. What happened?"
I hesitated before recounting everything in a dull, exhausted voice.
Joey listened intently, then said, "Stay with us. You don't have to train today."
But I shook my head. "No need. I won't train anymore. I think I'm ready. I can take care of myself now."
Without another word, I left.
Joey watched me go and murmured to his family, "He's changed… He's not the same kid from before."

The cold rain poured down as I wandered through the streets with no destination.
The freezing air bit at my skin, bringing back memories I wished I could forget.
That night.
My parents' murder.
The same rain had fallen that night, just like now.
I thought long and hard about where to go.
Only one option remained.
