CHAPTER 12: SECRETS THAT BIND

Ugochukwu woke up with and impending headache that refused to suffice; his eyes flunged open as he glanced at one of his long time friend seated beside him. The days following Adaobi’s capture were a blur of rage and confusion. Ugochukwu could barely think straight. His only focus was her—getting her back. The truth about his father’s involvement in the criminal empire had shattered him, but that was nothing compared to the hole in his chest when he thought of Adaobi in the hands of the King’s men.

Everything he had fought for, everything he had endured, seemed meaningless in that moment. Adaobi was alive, and that was the only thing that mattered now.

Ugochukwu had acted without hesitation, following the trail that Tunde had given him. The message was clear, but the cost of retrieving her was unknown. He couldn’t afford to waste any more time. The King’s men were everywhere, and every moment spent waiting could mean losing Adaobi for good.
