Chapter 8

Nadia's POV

I spent the next hour thinking about the feasibility of Landon's plan.

It sounds great, maybe a little smart, but both our lives depend on it coming to pass.

"Let's head out." Landon's knocks me out of my imagination. I've thought up one billion ways it could all go wrong and one billion creative ways Vance and Talia would watch us pay for thinking up such an idea.

We grab our sweatshirts and head out the door.

Landon stops abruptly in front of the driver's door of his car and faces me. "I love you, Nadia. I'm doing this for me, and for us. We could both be better. Sometimes, we have to take charge of our destiny, and the time is now." He heaves a breath that sounds like it has been in his chest for quite a while, and unlocks his door.

"Tell me you love me again. I want to hear it." I can't blame myself for sounding so pathetic. Landon's has been quite distant of late and I could seize any opportunity to get back my sweet lover.

"I love you, Nadia." He says without even considering it.

We open the doors and get in our seats. I take a deep breath to remember how life as a betas mate feels one last time . I'm off to rewrite my destiny.

"I love you, and I hope this goes as you've planned. I'd try my best not to fuck it up." I say to Landon's, holding his face in my hand. For that split second, he loses his guard around me and gives in, closing his eyes and heaving a pent sigh.

"Hello." Landon greets the guard who hurries to unlock the gate. I'm tense and nervous. It's half past eight, but Landon wants us done by nine. A thirty minute window.

We drive into the garage filled with fleets of cars of expensive caliber. What was I expecting?

I'm scared. Tyla says in my head. What if…

I'm scared too, Tyla, but we have to take this chance.

Landon squeezes my hand one last time before we hop out of the vehicle. He exudes Alpha energy, leaving my mind running helter skelter in cowardice.

We are dressed casually, I'm wearing one face of the sweatshirt, Landon is on the other.

According to the plan, I'm the one who steps in first, Landon doesn't come until twenty minutes after.

"Hey!" I saw Talia from afar with some other pack members. She looks pretty as hell.

"Nadia," she throws her hands wide open as soon as she sees me, "I thought you were not going to come back." She says after roping me into a long hug.

"What made you think that?" I ask, throwing her a questioning glare. , "How are you?" I asked again before she could answer the first one. Ten minute's is gone. I can hear Landon talk to me through our mindlink, I just can't hear him clearly.

"I'm very fine." Talia replies, beaming. Her white flash of teeth sent chills down my spine. Just what if she knows what we're thinking. I talk to my wolf less, because even though Talia's wolf is not strong enough to intrude my thoughts, I'm surrounded by much stronger wolves. "Your red sweatshirt is so beautiful."

"Thank you so much. Landon got it for me, matching sweaters kinda ish." I hope I'm not out of line, I think I was supposed to say that. "Where is the restroom?" I ask her, "weak bowel." I continued, giving a guilty smile. Talia laughs after which she points east.

I take a deep breath before going in the wrong direction. According to Landon, I'm two rooms away from the master bedroom, where Vance and Talia would spend the night.

Swaying my body gently to the low music and cautiously walking towards the bedroom, I push the door open letting myself in.

The master bedroom has a king-sized bed with a luxurious upholstered headboard, complemented by soft, neutral-toned bedding; it kinda screams 'Vance'.

Large windows like the one Landon asked me to unlock overlook various corners of the house, allowing the security light filter in. The low light highlights the tasteful blend of modern and classic furniture.

I want this for Landon and I. We are much better than being betas to Vance and his new clueless Luna. Talia is my friend, but I'm taking what is meant to be mine.

I skulk around the room, half blind, taking in all my eyes could see. There are quite a number of windows facing the car park. Which one exactly?

A little sightseeing wouldn't hurt…

This is amazing. Tyla and I are both fascinated by how majestic the room is. There's some wrapped gift boxes placed on the plush couches too. This is a lot!

"This could be ours." I say to Tyla in my head, smirking. I feel her excitement as she whines and whimpers. "How does it feel to be Luna? Huh." I keep on teasing Tyla.

Tyla is excited, I sense an electrifying surge within me. My senses become heightened, and an exhilarating thrill coursed through my veins.

The anticipation of the success of this mission makes my heart race. A low, guttural growl escaped my throat, a telltale sign of the excitement building within my lupine form.

It's time to unlock every single window Landon could use. It's a plan that just shouldn't fail.

My eyes glinted with a mix of wild determination and the primal thrill of what lays ahead, the next couple of minutes are very crucial.

"Fuck!" It escapes my lips while I try pushing the vinyl windows apart.

I might be a little late, but my work is done.

Time to get Landon.

"Hello." The light comes on as the voice startles me, causing me to miss a step.

"Oh. Hi. Vance." My vocabulary seems empty and the words aren't coming. I wasn't expecting anyone, I wasn't expecting him. What am I thinking? It's his room! "How long have you been in here?" I somehow think it's not so dumb to ask that question.

"Long enough to have seen you creep in." Vance doesn't sound like he is about to make a big deal about it. I'm just not sure what I said out loud. I hope I had not given Landon and I out.

"I won't say 'creep'. I had to use the bathroom, but I lost my way." I replied to him, flippantly.

"And you decided you have over ten minutes to spare going through other people's stuff and looking round?" There's a little humor in his voice, I like the sound of it.

"Yeah, something like that." I hope this undermines my being here in the first place.

I hear a creak from one of the windows I threw open.

"It's changed quite a bit from what you used to know though." Vance says, smirking.

"I think I should start heading out back. " I barely finished before heading out.

Vance grabs me by the neck and pulls me close with just a hair's breadth between us. "I never want to see you in my house again, after tonight, except for pack meetings and full moons." His grip on my neck is so tight and I could barely let my breath out.

He throws me out of the door and bangs it shut.
