Showing Off at Home

The May Day holiday wasn't even over yet.

Song Yanxi woke up early on purpose—she was taking little An An back to her mother's house.

That smug look in her eyes? She might as well have had it written across her forehead.

Chen Pingsheng teased her, "It's just a new car. Did you really lose sleep all night thinking about how to show it off?"

"Yes, totally worth it."

She got everything ready early, even dressing An An in a brand-new princess dress.

With her chubby little figure, that pink dress made her look ridiculously adorable.

Two tiny braided pigtails on each side of her head completed the look.

"An An, today we're going to Grandma's house to show off a little. Let them see that even your casual dresses now cost over a thousand."

Now that their family was doing well, they naturally wanted to spoil their only daughter.

Chen An'an nodded firmly.

She didn't quite understand the adult world, but she got the gist of the kid version:

Do you have pocket money today?

Yes.

How much?

One yuan.

Only one? I have two. You're not worthy of being my friend.

Chen Pingsheng sighed helplessly. His wife was really something else.

To her, buying a Porsche and not flaunting it at her mother's house was like wearing a fancy outfit in the dark—completely pointless.

How could she not? Her snobbish mother had never respected her husband.

This time, she was going to make sure her mother got a real slap in the face.

Naturally, mother and daughter set off in their newly bought Panamera.

Gotta admit, in its class, this car was pretty much unmatched.

Heated seats, instant acceleration with just a tap on the gas—it was a completely different league compared to an Audi A4.

Not even close.

---

Liu Fen lived in an old residential area in the Third Ring.

Most of the houses here were part of a demolition compensation plan.

During the holiday, Song Wu had invited two classmates over, both locals from Beijing.

So, Liu Fen had gone to the market early to buy groceries.

When she returned, carrying bags full of fresh produce, she happened to see a white Panamera with temporary plates pulling up.

Song Yanxi took off her sunglasses and gave little An An a meaningful glance.

The little girl instantly understood and pressed the button to roll down the window.

"Grandma!"

Her soft, sweet voice was irresistibly cute.

Liu Fen was riding an electric scooter—since the market wasn't far, it was the most convenient way to get around.

"An An? What are you doing here?"

She stopped and greeted her granddaughter before shifting her gaze to the luxury car.

After parking, Song Yanxi got out with An An. "Mom, you bought so many groceries because you have guests?"

"Your sister brought some classmates over, so I got extra food to entertain them."

As she spoke, Liu Fen kept staring at the car.

"What's going on? Whose car are you driving?"

"It's my daddy's," An An proudly announced before her mother could answer.

"Your daddy's?" Liu Fen was shocked. "Chen Pingsheng bought a Porsche?"

"Yep. Paid in full yesterday."

Whoa… No way.

Her out-of-town son-in-law was driving a Porsche now?

And she—the mother-in-law—had been kept completely in the dark?

Unacceptable. This called for serious action.

Liu Fen immediately said, "Yanxi, since you're on holiday, invite all the relatives over for dinner. It's about time our family put on a proper feast."

What did that mean?

She clearly wanted to make sure all their relatives found out ASAP.

Even a fool could see through her intentions.

Since her little scheme had been exposed, Song Yanxi didn't bother hiding it anymore.

She suggested, "Mom, Pingsheng is actually really capable. No matter what you said about him before, he never lost his temper with you. I came here today to invite you all over for dinner at our place."

"Yeah, right. Let's wait until he buys a big house in Beijing first."

If she, as his mother-in-law, was going to admit she was wrong, a second-hand Panamera wasn't going to cut it.

Now, a big house inside the Third Ring?

That, she'd happily slap herself twice and apologize.

It's not that she hadn't changed her opinion of him—she just wasn't ready to admit it yet.

Since this was her own mother, Song Yanxi didn't argue.

---

Back home, Song Wu welcomed her sister warmly.

She especially adored little An An.

"Sis, isn't your place super busy?"

"Of course it is," Song Yanxi replied. "Our second store is running a huge promotion, pulling in hundreds of thousands a day. I'm not as free as you think."

Song Wu was curious. "Then why did you suddenly come back today?"

"She's here to show off."

Liu Fen, who knew her daughter too well, exposed her without hesitation.

"Chen Pingsheng bought a Panamera, and your sister made a special trip just to flaunt it."

"What? Didn't you guys just buy an Audi for New Year's?"

"That was my mom's. This is my dad's."

Little An An was quick to steal the spotlight again.

Everyone knew each other's little schemes, so it wasn't a big deal if they got exposed.

But Song Wu was genuinely stunned.

Her unremarkable out-of-town brother-in-law…

Just last year, he was selling durian from a tricycle.

Now, in less than six months, he owned a fruit store, a distribution hub, and even a cold storage business—basically acting like a real boss.

And now, he had bought a Porsche in full?

Was he actually making it big?

"I get that you're buying all these things, but when are you guys going to buy a house?"

Liu Fen still cared most about this.

Cars were just tools—a home was the real foundation.

"No rush."

Song Yanxi sat on the couch with An An and said casually,

"Pingsheng doesn't like pre-sales, and he refuses to do financing. By July at the latest, we'll buy a 200-square-meter apartment in Beixinan. Paid in full."

"Full payment?!"

Liu Fen's eyes widened like a cow's. "Yanxi, do you even know how much a full-payment apartment in Beijing costs? I swear, if the Spring Festival Gala didn't invite you, that's their loss."

"What's the big deal? If Pingsheng hadn't invested five million in a drama production, we could've bought one already."

Ignoring her mom's sarcastic remarks, Song Yanxi stated it plainly.

"What?"

Liu Fen was dumbfounded. Song Wu looked like she was listening to alien transmissions.

"He invested in a drama? How come I didn't know?"

Song Yanxi rolled her eyes at her sister.

"Back when he was doing moving jobs, he met a small-time actress who lived next door to us. He tagged along as an extra a few times and ended up meeting a decent director—some guy named Yang Jiancheng."

"The guy had a great script but was short five million to start filming. So, your brother-in-law invested the full amount and even picked our neighbor, Zhao Liying, as the female lead."

"Sis, you are my real sister, right?"

Song Wu grabbed her sister's arm and shook it.

"You do know your little sister is in acting school, right? I'm about to graduate! He had such a big opportunity—why didn't he tell me?!"

Thinking about all the humiliating auditions she had been through recently, she felt like crying.

And now she finds out her brother-in-law became a producer?!

Producers pick who gets the lead roles!

"You ever respectfully called him 'Brother-in-law' even once?"

Song Yanxi's calm words left Song Wu completely speechless.
